Help - I have too good a figure!

That got your attention.
Seriously though. How do I motivate myself to eat healthily? My diet is appalling and I know it but because I don't put on weight I can't motivate myself to change.

Today I ate:

2 of those raisin and lemon pancake things in packets
3 packets of swizzles plus 2 drumstick lollies (from the trick or treat bag)
3 cans diet coke
2 very large chocolate chip shortbread biscuits
a cheese sandwich
a bag of crisps
a tescos finest ready made carbonara.

I don't like veg so don't eat it. I haven't ever eaten veg.

Its no good just saying don't buy the crap because I don't buy it and then feel miserable and end up making another trip to the shops.

I fell for it!

You REALLY need to learn to eat veg. Salad? Fruit? because otherwise I bet your kids will not want to either.

pukkapatch · 31/10/2007 22:06

hmm, from personal experience dieting, i would say, that unless you want to change how you eat, no amount of advice from anyone is going to make a difference.
you need to find out what makes you want to eat the crap stuff, and then find out some other way of satisfying whatever that urge is.
excercies?
painting your nails
cup of coffee?
run roudn the garden naked?

ellehcim · 31/10/2007 22:06

Fortunately DS1 is a fruit freak and munches on raw carrot sticks all day (yuck). I don't let him see that I don't eat plants.

LOL at plants!

bluejelly · 31/10/2007 22:19

Seriously you have to change now! You will live longer, feel better, lose weight and set a better example for your kids!
Start with the veg that you do like, and then expand into other areas
Treat yourself with non-food items along the way
Buy yourself a jamie oliver book to inspire you
Seriously you are putting yourself at risk of all sorts of preventable health conditions by continuing to eat that way!

bluejelly · 31/10/2007 22:19

Sorry that was rather ranty! Am god knows I am not perfect! But I do eat my 5 a day

IntergalacticWarlock · 31/10/2007 22:20

Oh God, you don;t want to se waht I have scoffed today.

Tis baaaad.

I am 5 stone overweight

tis not surprising

[fat]

I too need a kick up my (not inconsiderable) arse

ellehcim · 31/10/2007 22:30

I can't do it. I last about two days and then go straight back to the crap. Tried switching to diet coke to get a sugary taste but now I'm just addicted to that too!
I know its all really bad for me but the risks don't seem real when my figure doesn't change. I'm thinner now than before DS2.

Like the treating myself with non food items idea though. And I may well try running around the garden naked. Its getting a bit chilly now though.

ellie, you need to find out your triggers.
and then work out soem way of satisfying them that doesnt involve crap.

ellehcim · 31/10/2007 22:34

I think my triggers are just that I'm too knackered and too busy running around after babies and toddlers to eat properly during the day. Realise I haven't eaten, grab the nearest sugary thing.

OP posts:
pukkapatch · 01/11/2007 11:45

if that is the case, you need to find some way of having proper meals ready to hand, so you grab the correct things to eat, rather than the sugarry stuff.
however, sugar is very addictive. almost like a drug. and going cold turkey will give you withdrawal symptoms like that of any drug. so. decide when you are going to do this. get rid of all sugary stuff from house. but ensure you have enough proper meals in the house to grab and stuff as it were. give yourself at least ttwo weeks to do this.and stick to it for two weeks. hopefully htat should be enough to kickstart you.
but plan for two weeks when you dont have a lot of different stuff on. no holidays etc.
and remember its all about mental attitude rather than anything else

What about your teeth. There was a show on channel 5 last night where a woman was eating a lot of food high in sugar - she was overweight but they also highlighted the effect all the sugar was having on her teeth and how it is better to have 1 cup of tea with ten sugars rather than ten cups with 1 sugar cause you are exposing the teeth to sugar too often. i used to be addicted to diet coke and I now have over 36 fillings as a result.

I am very new to MN, but read New magazine this week - it's a trashy gossip mag but there is an article in there about a woman who ate junk all the time and ended up vomiting diarrheoa!!

NineUnlikelyTales · 01/11/2007 13:20

Funkyfred that same woman was on Channel 5 last night, bleuuuugh. What an incentive to eat well.

Ellehcim I am the same as you in that I can eat a 100% crap diet and not put on weight. I love chocolate and sweet things and could happily live on just that. But looking long term, how are we going to look and feel in 10 years time if we treat our bodies like that? My MIL has a fantastic figure and gorgeous skin at 60 and I think it is down to her 90% perfect diet. She eats loads of fruit and veg, nuts, seeds, pulses, wholemeal everything and not much rubbish. Whereas my mum, who is 10 years younger, is quite overweight and does not look healthy. At my age she was the same size as me, if not smaller, so it shows how eating badly or well can affect you.

As of last night (not just inspired by the programme honest!) I have resolved to make some changes to my diet. I am starting with cutting down the chocolate/sweet stuff to just one a day, and upping my fruit and veg.

What small change could you make and stick to? Start small and work up to a better diet.

NineUnlikelyTales · 01/11/2007 13:21

Just read back and realised I omitted to say that mum eats really badly, hence fat and unhealthy.

bootsmonkey · 01/11/2007 13:33

What about making pasta sauces with loads of veg - blend it down - at least you would get some fibre & vitamins in there! Also finely chop carrots & other veg into whatever you are making. Try porridge for breakfast to try help fill you up & not snack at the start of the day - Oatso simple does in the microwave in 2.5mins.... I skip breakfast (cos I can't face it) but have one of those at 10ish when I get hungry/sugar craving to tide me over to lunch
