Keep going into dreamlike state

Over the last week I’ve had three episodes of what I can only describe as suddenly entering a dreamlike state when I’m awake just going about my business (once paying with DS, another walking back from corner shop and this morning doing some housework). The last one this morning was accompanied by sweating. I sat down and did some deep breathing and focussed on a carrier bag in hallway to stop lapsing back into the dream. I have the same images each time of a woman with a dog or animal.
Drawing a blank on 111 (it keeps suggesting ringing 999) and NHS.
Any suggestions appreciated

Definitely get checked out by a doctor.

It could be anxiety/panic/dissociation or some other psychological issue.

There is a type of epilepsy that presents like this, too, with ‘absences’.

The sweating is also a sign. See the doctor asap.

Thank you for that link @FortunesFave - that sounds exactly what I’m experiencing including the deja vu feeling. Found out today that two of my younger cousins also suffer mild epilepsy with similar experiences.
I’m ringing the GP Monday! Smile

I'm waiting for my final test results for something very similar. Consultant initially thought epilepsy was unlikely but one test result was a bit iffy so I had some more investigations and just waiting for results now. Jury still out but the epilepsy nurse who did my eeg said it did sound likely (and also not the end of the world).

Please do be very explicit with the gp about what you think it could be. I mentioned to 3 gps and they all said panic attacks. It was only because it really kept niggling at me that I finally managed to get someone to refer me.

@funtimefrank - sorry to hear you’re experiencing it too. How long have yours been happening, how often does it occur?

I’ve since had another two episodes today which worries, me as the others have been a few days apart.

Mine are very sporadic. I get them roughly every 3 weeks but they started about 18 months ago and since the I've had gaps of 5/6 months and then 1 a week for a couple of weeks.

If it is epilepsy then dr thought peri menopausal triggered - apparently not an unusual presentation. I'll be honest, now I've had nasty stuff rules out I'm pretty indifferent to them. The worst thing is not knowing what they are rather than the episodes themselves which are very short albeit not that nice.

funtimefrank · 10/02/2021 20:40

@Katkincake not sure if this is helpful but I got my results back and they have decided not enough evidence of epilepsy.

They don't know what they actually are but have ruled out serious causes and suggested medication which managed both seizures and anxiety if I want (which I probably don't because mine are unpleasant but nothing more and the medication has a few side effects).

Katkincake · 10/02/2021 21:26

Ah that's good @funtimefrank but it's always frustrating when you don't get the full answer too. At least it's nothing serious and you do have the option of meds.

Saw GP today she did quick check and took bloods for a complete diagnosis, but will refer me on to nuerologist. Sounds like I'll have quite a wait though as there's no space in our county so I have to go much further afield. Going to see what bloods suggest and if still need a referral go private as would rather pay a few hundred and get a quicker answer (or at least peace of mind like you)

Hope you can learn to live with yours over time, it does sound like not taking drugs might be better than the potential side effects from them if they're manageable.
