Weird patch on tongue

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the tip of my tongue felt a bit weird, but thought I must either be getting an ulcer or had burnt it on something. Today I realised it was still feeling sensitive ( I have a very active one year old so haven't really had time to think about it) and when I looked in the mirror there is quite a big patch that looks like the top layer is missing, has anyone else had this?

Covid tongue is apparently a thing...

Look up geographical tongue.....someone I know had something like this and dentist said it was that.....def get it checked when you can but probably nothing serious at all x

Thankyou, I've googled both of those and I don't think it's covid tongue as there's no swelling or scalloping (also I've been shielding so I'd be very surprised if it was), I'd not heard of it so it's good to be aware. I think lookingforsomehelp has cracked it, it looks exactly like geographical tongue, even down to a slightly raised white border which isn't really visible in the photo. I'll send a picture to the doctor just to be safe but I'm pretty sure that's what it is, I knew Mumsnet would have the answer!

That's good OP Smile
I remember that my sister had it on & off for about a year & then disappeared completely.... there's no treatment from what I remember and also no danger either.
Happy to have helped x

Oh & don't be surprised if the doctor has no idea.....might be better to send to your dentist possibly?
Even with the dentists.....one thought it was her teeth rubbing and wanted to grind the edges away Confused he was clueless!!!
Only a really good dentist friend of hers diagnosed it for her.
Good luck x

My dentist is still in the dark ages, there's no email or picture messaging, the only way to contact them is the phone which is rarely answered and you can't even leave a message!

My friend had these patches on her tongue. It was caused by low iron levels.

I had something similar a couple of times. I used a special mouthwash Cortisol??

Although I think it would have cleared up on it's own.
Dentist said it might be due to anaemia.
