Blood in poo, 7 month dd.

I was taking off her nappy for a bath and noticed a few flecks of blood in her poo. The nappy was quite green and full of mucus. I called NHS 24 and they said I had to check her regularly, if it happens again I have to take her to the hospital.

Has this happened to anyone else?

No personal experience, but I have heard that mucous in stools is a sign of an intolerence to something. Apparantley mucous is the bodies way of expelling things it doesn't want/need.

Has she had a change in diet/ introduction to anything new?

Not really sure about the blood though.

Hope she improves soon, it must be quite worrying for you x

oh yes. dd2 had mucusy pooey nappies three or four times over several months at around this age.

She got referred to the hospital but they couldn't find anything wrong and it settled down in time. Is she breast fed?

here is my thread about it

DD had blood in her poo when she was a week old, we took her to the out of hour doctor who said she was ine and then we had her tested for dairy intolerance which came back clear.

Yes she's bf.

The only thing thats different in her diet is that I've been leaving a few tiny lumps in her mashed potato. And I guess I added carrot yesterday and today, she's not had carrot since she was first on puree's about a month ago.

She's also eaten a huge amount over the last couple of days, but I put that down to swimming as I know myself I get very hungry after.

I'm meant to check her regularly, I wonder if that means I should wake her up to check or just wait and see if she wakes up on her own.........hmmmm.

Yes, I'm very worried, have dug out the movement sensor for her monitor so I don't need to keep watching her breathing.

Do they mean check her or just check her poo?
Has she been ok otherwise - any temperature or pain?

I probably wouldn't wake her unless there is something other than the poo to be concerned about.

I am sure she is probably just reacting to something new going through her bowels. Try not to worry (easier said than done ) she'll be fine x

My DD has this from time to time and it is linked to her constipation, could this be the case for your DD? The dr said it was anal fissures, she strained so much she burst blood vessels or something similarly nasty sounding! The drs I've spoken to seem unconcerned but she now has lactulose when she needs it.

Cupcakes, Thanks very much that wa really helpfull

They just said to check her and make sure she was ok and there was no blood in the poo. I assume that means feel her head to make sure she's not got a fever and check her nappy every now and again.

I think it's probably just a result of the huge poo she had this morning. Yes Used2bthin, I think she might have strained, there were some lumps in it that looked that way when they went in.

Thanks all for talking poo with me, a subject i bet we all thought we'd never be so concerned about
