Question about D&C

Right, bit of an odd one, bear with me - could someone that knows from a medical professionals perspective explain to me what happens in a D&C. I mean the whole procedure, not in vague terms.

They put you under, then they open the cervic, then they insert their tools and scrape the internal surface of your uterus.

Then they bring you round.

Hiye. It's with small metal rods. Have a look at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=132&sectionId=24 In case the link doesn't work go to www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk and search for dilatation and curettage and 'how it is performed' on the right. Hope this helps.

When I had a d&c about three years ago, I was given a pessary first (they suggested I might feel more comfortable putting it in myself, whichi appreciated) and that starts softening the cervix before the anaesthetic. Hope that helps.
