Hello, probably stupid question of the week but does anyone know who I can be referred to to investigate elevated enzymes (LDH) in a child's blood test? Our current consultant is stumped and I'm trying to find out who specialises in this area?

TIA

Are you being seen at a specialist children's hospital already? If not then I would insist on being referred to the nearest. If you are at that already then I would contact your current doc and ask him/her to refer you to a colleague for a second opinion in the first instance. If they are still stumped then I would be inclined to ask them what avenues they intend to explore to get advice - international etc. If you don't get answers then contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liasion Service) in the hospital and ask them to help you with this. Frankly this sounds like a pretty specialised area and I think you need to get the doctors to do the work here and sort through the clinical stuff to find out who can crack it.
Good luck - this must be so worrying and frustrating for you.

Hiya, my ds has been monitored and tested (!) by an oncologist at a nearby hospital for nearly a year now. He tells us he's stumped yet this enzyme keeps rising in his blood results...and yet they don't seem to think it's worth further investigation! Yesterday I heard of a specialist children's centre nearby so I'm going to push for a referral there (not least because M.E. has been suggested to us and they have a specialist team there.)

Thanks for your post, we seem to be consumed with it at the moment and I'm adamant that they won't brush us off with this.
