She is saying that it hurts when she wees, like she is bleeding ( she is 5) she says the pain is definetly in her vagina not her anus so not worms.

Her whole vagina is red and inflamed and sore to touch.

Is this cystitus, the start of thrush, urine infection.

She is currently drinking lots of water, is this ok?

She needs to see the GP as soon as you can - now, if you can get her to an emergency GP. It sounds very much like a urine infection, and the sooner you start to treat it, the better. Drinking lots of water will help dilute the urine so it stings less, but if it's an infection she needs antibiotics.

twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2007 23:40

I did not think I would need to call anyone out, was going to take her to the gp in the morning.

Ah, poor wee pet, def sounds like a urine infection.

I used to get awful UTI's when i was younger, def get her to the dr ASAP, Give her paracetamol as well.

A cool bath might help, Bicarb of soda in the bath will prob take sting out of it a bit.

Poor thing.

I agree with Skerrymum

RoyKinnear · 30/10/2007 23:49

i would not drag a child out at midnight as it is not an emergency
calpol and nurofen will curb pain till morning
make sure she drinks a lot and bath vulva and urethra in water
does she always wipeafter urinating - this can make girls sore if they dont

twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2007 23:52

have called nhs direct and they have told told me to take her to our 24 walk in centre.

yes i have - many times and though not nice i would not jump to use out of hours doctors for an issue that has only just arisen

unless an emergency of course

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/10/2007 00:29

I had a UTI start Saturday night.

By Monday morning I was at GP's with kidney infection.

It FARKING hurts. Good idea to take her, IMO.

RoyKinnear · 31/10/2007 00:33

i would always wait till morning but then thats cos we work on the other side of the coin

twinsetandpearls · 31/10/2007 01:18

we have just got back from emergency doctor as she was up and in tears anyway and that was the advice we were given.

She is very very red and sore insife of her vagina and has a urine infection as well. Apparantly this has been goin on a few days but she didn't tell anyone. She is struggling to walk as it hurts so much after a wee. I was going to keep her at home tomorrow as she is only just now going to sleep and the thought of her hobbling around school or worrying about having to leave the classroom repeatedly for a wee ( she was told off today for spending too much time on the toilet) seems to much as well as the pain of a urine infection.

so could this have been started by not siping properly after the loo?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 31/10/2007 01:21

can she dilute the water she drinks with bicarb so the urine won't be so acidic and painful?

poor wee mite!

twinsetandpearls · 31/10/2007 01:25

Had not thought of that, I asked the doctor about giving her extra water to flush her out so to speak and he said normally that would be OK but because she is so sore and inflamed to keep water to her normal requirements as going to the loo is so painful.

I thought of you expat when I took dd to do her urine sample , are you touched and flattered to be in my thoughts at such special times ?

awww poor thing

Once she starts taking medicine (antibiotics? Trimethoprim?) she should feel better very quickly.

Cranberry juice (probably diluted for her) is also very good.

What about sudocreme on the sore bits too?

deepbreath · 31/10/2007 10:50

Oh, poor girl

My 4 y.o. dd recently had a UTI, and was screaming in pain when when she had to wee. The pain was so bad that she was trying to avoid going, which made things worse when she went.

I got a lukewarm jug of water, and trickled it over her parts when she was on the loo, the way that the midwife told me to do it after I gave birth and was sore. This really helped her.

If things are that bad, maybe she could wee in the shower or bath for now?

She seems much better this morning although she is still hurting when she goes to the loo. She hates her medicine, she spat it all over me last night. She seems more upset about not being in school.

dramaqueen · 31/10/2007 12:20

Try giving her a bath and getting her to wee while in it. You need to check that she is on the right antibiotics. If she doesn't keep getting better, go back to the GP and insist they are changed. Some UTIs are resistent to trimethoprim.

ALso you need to be careful with her now that she has had one UTI. She will be susceptible to getting more. I have found that I can head off some UTIs in my dd (age 4) by spotting the signs very early on, getting her to drink loads and bathing her alot. She has still had 3 full-blown ones now though and is on daily anti-biotics.

slim22 · 31/10/2007 12:24

just sending her some {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}
jug of trickling water when peeing sound like a good idea

twinsetandpearls · 01/11/2007 00:11

thankyou, she seems much chirpier today although we had a few tears at bedtime. She is back in school tomorrow though.
