Insomnia tips??

Any tips for insomnia?! I’ve tried melatonin, all the natural remedies I can find, reducing screen time 90 minutes before sleep, deep breathing...I can’t seem to sleep.
Any suggestions welcome!

Are you menopausal? I only ask because my insomnia was horrendous, hardly sleeping for more than 45 mins at a time , for years, tried everything, and got resolved when I started taking progesterone at night after dinner. Only wake up for one hour now at 4 am 😀

Calm app
Magnesium spray/flakes in bath
Hard but go to bed to "relax", don't think I must sleep now, you're just going for a chill out and to rest your eyes
Sometimes getting out of bed, having a hot drink (some form of sleep tea) and then trying again helps me
Phenergan over the counter
Night nurse
If all this fails then see the GP. I have a point once a year where I can't sleep at all, she looks at my record and goes "ah, that time again" and gives me 5 sleeping tablets which sorts it

I am not menopausal but I often wonder about my hormones as I’ve had a history of fibroids/multiple surgeries, etc. I just had a pretty major surgery to remove a fibroid about 6 weeks ago and wondered if hormones had something to do with it. Maybe I will get them tested.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you!! All good ideas. I’m debating booking in with the GP about something to help me sleep but wanted to avoid that if I could. If it’s necessary though, that may be the answer.

Definitely worth trying the Calm app, or similar.

Also, and weird as it may sound, sometimes when I can't sleep I get up and have something stodgy (jam and bread) and a glass of milk. Seems to help me to drop off.

I suggest it’s hormone related too, as well as reduced exercise due to recent surgery perhaps?

Do get back into a rhythm, they say set an alarm clock for the time you want to get up, and it’s to be 7 days a week. No long lies at the weekend or it won’t work.

Try to go to bed at your usual bedtime but stay up a bit longer if you are not tired rather than lie there bored. Go to bed when you are tired and get up when the alarm goes off.

Even if you only get one hour sleep you get up, and no naps during the day.

Stay up until your usual bedtime and go to be when tired. Get up with the alarm. No day napping.

By day three you’ll be crawling into bed before your usual time and sleep like the dead.

It so they say! Good luck.
