For the past few weeks I have been suffering with dizziness. Not constantly, it’s happened 2 or 3 times in as many weeks.

The symptoms are:

  • it usually begins in the morning and then continues all day
  • it feels like I’m drunk, complete dizziness like I can’t stand up straight
  • if I turn my head too soon or move too quickly it’s like the room is spinning
  • I feel nauseous

I’ve never experienced this before. I don’t have any ear pain, ringing etc. or headaches

Thank you!

Thanks everyone. Do you think it’s ear related even though there’s no ear symptoms? I thought vertigo but seems to involve ringing of the ears, hearing issues etc. which I don’t have

Yes probably ear related. It sounds like Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

WilsonMilson · 31/01/2021 17:37

Sounds like BPPV as above poster suggested. The crystals in your ears have likely moved slightly out of place. I had it last year. Kept recurring every few days for a couple of months but then faded out to nothing. I went to see an ENT specialist, he said it was very common and can leave you with an almost dizziness ‘hangover’ where you have to retrain your balance system. I did vestibular rehab exercises which helped a lot.

SingSweetNightingale · 31/01/2021 17:43

Oh goodness @WilsonMilson I can’t imagine having this carry on for such a long time. It literally feels like I’m hungover.
DP is doing all the housework and looking after our 4 month old today whilst I lie down.
I will ring the GP tomorrow and see if I can get a phone appointment

Meniere's?

SingSweetNightingale · 31/01/2021 17:44

I didn’t think it could be vertigo because of the lack of ear symptoms but I’m probably wrong by the sounds of it

I had zero ear symptoms either. Literally just happened one morning as I turned around in bed and everything began to spin.
It will get better, it just takes some time. You have my total sympathy it’s terrifying and totally debilitating. Good news is that it gets better, I haven’t had an episode for a few months now so I’m hopeful I won’t again.

In the meantime I found Joey Remenyi on YouTube and Facebook really helpful - she is a specialist in vestibular and balance disorders.

dizzydizzydizzy · 31/01/2021 22:25

Ah! Well this sounds familiar. I have much the same symptoms and was diagnosed with PPPD. My GP had never heard of it. The cure is vestibular physio, CBT and anti-anxiety drugs. If you think it could be this you need to see a vestibular specialist who runs a balance clinic within ENT or a neurologist.
