Ok this is what i am doing.
Started antibiotics
on ventolin (not normally and not astmatic )
taking cough med
making hot honey lemon and whiskey drinks
hot ribena
deep breathing
trying to sleep sitting up
staying active even though all i want to do is lie down and sleep.

Last night was horrible-i must have slipped down the bed and fallen asleep flat as i was really tired.
I woke up barely able to breath with quite bad chest pain.
managed to come downstairs and take some of dd inhaler which eased the breathing (dr. says i can carry on doing this ).I then spent an hour trying to shift what felt like a plug of gunk in my chest.
I really dont want to wake up like that again tonight.
Chest pain is much easier but still there-its like a really bruised feeling around sternum.I also have a bit of pain in my back where my lungs hang out.
Dr said i have some crackles and hence treatment but is there anything else i can be doing to shift this-have 3 children on hol and they are having a miserable week !
Cheers x

Active Cycle of Breathing Technique.

Best way of shifting sputum.

When I had my chest infection I had to have stronger ab after the first lot didn't work, for 3 weeks. AND I needed two courses of steroid tablets (6 a day for 5 days)

On top of the medication I inhaled steam form a bowl of hot water with eucaliptus and menthol in. When I was actually inhaling (for 20 mins a time with tea towel over head) it was the only time I could breath in without it hurting. If you don't have anything to put in the water, you could use vicks, or have the water on it's own - a blessed relief!

Garlic and honey are natural antibiotics as such. Crush a couple of cloves, enough to fill a tablespoon, and if possible try and get hold of some active honey, Manuka. The honey masks the taste of the garlic and just swallow it.

It may sound disgusting but it's not that bad really. I have found this works really well for me.

If not make yourself some garlic bread by crushing a clove of garlic and mixing with enough butter, cover a slice of bread and toast it.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
You might want to run this past your own GP before you try it but I was told by my GP to do the following (last year when I had a very bad persistent chest infection) - run a hot steamy bath - then take a few puffs of ventolin and get in bath. Steam should help loosen the gunk and ventolin also opens airways making it easier to cough up the gunk.
Disclaimer : I am not a medical person this is just what my GP told me to do! It worked.
