Chronic Constipation

Ghastly subject.

For years I've suffered with chronic constipation.

I've not helped myself and not stuck at any kind of routine with diet or supplements etc.

Can anyone suggest any methods.

Doctor is NO help. Fed up with constantly being fobbed off to increase water intake (I'll drown if I drink anymore!)

Prunes? Fybogel? Probiotics?

I would welcome any suggestions. I'm so fed up!

Stomach massage every night when you're in bed. It helped me a lot... You can feel it in your intestines...

I'd say you need something like lactoluce (sp) or movicol to get things moving. All that fibre in your diet could be contributing to a blockage.

I had chronic constipation for about 2 years and the above is what helped me the most.

My DD has chronic constipation and all our experience says you need a stimulant laxative (to get your gut moving) as well as stuff to make the poo soft.

Senna is a reasonably gentle one. Sodium picosulfate is a bit stronger.

Also, how’s your sitting position on the loo? Knees should be higher than your hips (on a step or something), and you should be leaning forward slightly

@Jumpintothefire I find tinned pears (drinking the juice of them too) definitely helps!

I would try cutting out tea. I find that tea stops my bowels dead. So does paracetamol. Prune juice is better than prunes but nothing beats stewed plums!

Cloudy apple juice - a big glass every day. Life changing!

GP prescribed me senna and Laxido/Movicol. It worked.

I also have a good diet full of veg, pulses and lots of water. I also run a lot.

Mine was caused by various medications. I have stopped taking one of them and the constipation magically disappeared.

I recently has a hospital consultation for migraine. I was advised to take magnesium citrate tablets in the evening. This is to
Help with the headaches but, apparently it also helps with constipation and is one of ingredients of Laxido or Movicol.

Oh yes, and I forgot to say probiotics can sometimes cause constipation and gassy guts initially.

On another thread someone recommended these ORTIS Ortis Cubes 24's 24 (PACK OF 1) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002BK4EKO/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabc231DA87WHWP3X203MSXX??encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They do really work. I have to cut into tiny pieces and swallow with a drink (they aren't vile but my body was not happy about chewing and swallowing a whole one).
