Vitamins over 50's.

Stupid question but to get the best vitamin what should I look for.
E.g I don't need Evening Primrose contained in some as I am quite a way post menopause.
Do I just go up to the 70's?
Or am I overthinking this?
I usually just buy cheap multi vitamins but thought some beter ones would be worth a try.

It would be best to get a blood test, including omega 3 index, and then target your deficiencies.
Taking vitamins when not needed is not only useless, but might actually harm your health, as the betacarotene study proved increasing cancer rates instead of lowering them.

Focus on the quality of your diet, increase the quantity and diversity of the vegetables you eat and move.

How do you get a blood test including omega3 index?
GP? Would I need to be feeling ill first? Do you just ask??

In Australia, I pay for it and have it with regular check ups. But Next Time i want to try this provider omegaquant.com/ with the prick test. At my lowest, I was 3.8 which dangerously low . It is very important for brain. I had cognitive impairment and memory issues.
In Australia, since I pay anyway, a GP will just write the test request

Thanks for the replies, I had no idea, you know.
I just thought you took them for optional health and was really hoping someone would say the Boots Well Woman was the same as it's branded ones but a few £ cheaper.
I'd never thought about a blood test, not sure my gp would do it though.
Maybe, I don't need anything then.
What about those vits for joints would they be good at my age (54)

Depends what your issues are. A low level multi vit is pretty useless as it won’t target anything and will be covered anyway in a varied diet.
Things you may be insufficient in are omega 3 essential fatty acids, from oily fish- salmon, anchovies, sardines, mackerel, herrings, avocados, walnuts, chia and linseeds/ flaxseed, and vitamin D, mainly made in our bodies from the sun.

I take vitamin D for bone health. I have regular dexascans for slightly reduced bone density but it has stopped getting any worse.
