Thyroid lump referred to general surgery

I had an ultrasound/needle biopsy on a lump back at the start of December & chased the results last week. I've just had a phone call from general surgery to arrange an appt to discuss what can be done next week but no-one's actually told me the results. I should've asked the lady that called but I have severe anxiety when using the phone & can only just about manage to write down what they're saying, I'd have instantly forgotten when the appt was if I hadn't! The fact that it was gen. surgery calling & not my GP also threw me. I was gearing myself up for arguing for a referral to a surgeon given that it's not a tiny lump & is quite uncomfortable.

Does anyone have any idea whether the fact that it's gen. surgery is likely to be indicative of it not being cancer? I was assuming if anyone other than my GP rang then it would've been oncology.

I guess if they're scheduling another appt then my GP should now have my results so maybe I could ring them... Y'know, when I stop hyperventilating from the previous phonecall & get up the courage to speak to the scary receptionists who aren't exactly encouraging people to call for a chat at the moment!

I don't have much advice. But I've had an enlarged thyroid for years. I've recently been reading about it because I would like it removed and have found that lumps are usually cysts or a collection of cysts. Also, even if it is vaf news, thyroid cancer doesn't usually spread. I'm sorry I've not been much help x

I was referred to endocrine surgery for a thyroid lump in the summer. Biopsy came back indeterminate so they wanted to remove that half of my thyroid. An unclear biopsy is not uncommon apparently.
Did you complain of any symptoms such as hoarse voice or trouble swallowing as this would warrant surgery too.
I had my surgery 2 weeks after the biopsy results.
Honestly try not to worry. I was an absolute mess throughout the whole period (not helped by the fact I had just given birth in the spring!).
Your doctor's surgery should have a copy of the results so you could ring them tomorrow and ask. If it has taken so long for them to get back to you and needed you to chase it, that suggests it isnt anything sinister.
