I am trying not to jump to the obvios conslusion of diabetes as there are other things to consider as well.

Ds2 is 3.4 and has always been a good drinker, nothing like his 6 year old brother, who we constantly have to remind to have a drink, have resorted to special cups, fancy straws etc. About 3 week, maybe a month ago we noticed an increase in the amount ds2 was drinking. Then it tapered off again a little bit. For the last 2 weeks, he is drinking more again, started waking very wet in the morning or the nappy (still potty training)would have leaked or burst. I have now resorted to changing his nappy as I go to bed to try and stop him being so wet come morning.

At first we thought that the increase in the amount and temperature that we have the central heating on may have had some effect on how thirsty he is, but the rest of us are fine. Then I thought that maybe the calcium supplement that he is on could be the cause, one of the side effects is thirst and increased urine output. The thing that makes me think it is not this is that he has been on it for over 18 months will no ill effects at all. Unless he has too much calcium in his system, which can cause the same symptoms. The other thing that makes me think it can't be diabetes is that he drinks alot with meals but not so much in between. As an example, he drank 4 cups (250mls per cup) of water with his breakfast (admittedly, it is dry cereal, he won't eat anything else, but up until last week, he would have only drunk 1 and a bit cups). Only sunday we kept count and he drank 11 cups of water

Does anyone have any advice? We are due to see his paed in 2 weeks time, or should I take him to the GP straight away? He seems fine in himself, unfortunately he has other medical issues which means that symptoms can often be missed or put down to being part of something else (like being tired, pale, cold etc)

Oh and potty training is a heap of fun when he drinks so much, i had to stop to empty the potty twice while typing this!

I'd wait til you are due to see the paed unless anything else actually seems wrong, both my dc's have varied in the amount they drink, sometimes drinking lots and others hardly anything.
