Dd1 (3.5) has been ill for a week and a half with a bad barking cough. Dd2 (10 months) has now caught it. Her voice sounds hoarse and her cough is dry and barky.

Tixylix says age 1 and above. Would you give it? I gave half a dose earlier and then wondered if I should have.

What can I do to help her as she is clearly very uncomfortable?

Hello FGS

But sorry your dds have the dreaded cough...urgh, mine too, just stopped then caught another one. I would give the half dose if it helps, but tbh the thing that has helped dd2 most is the humidifier left on all night in her bedroom. And Nurofen seems to help when she's got sore throat pain more than Calpol.

Its not croup, is it? I was worried my two had it, but no - just a nasty barky cough.

And I really hope both get well soon, its horrid seeing LOs sick - especially the teeny ones

Hi Eli

The cough itself sounds like a croupy cough but the breathing isnt really ragged in the way it was when she had croup a couple of months ago.

I dont have a humidifier. Might try nurofen if she doesnt improve later.

Do you have radiators? If you do, you can stick wet towels on, has exactly same effect as humidifiers - or a bowl of water by heater, though I think towels more effective (for shorter time).

I'm glad it doesn't sound like croup. My two definitely don't have croup, but the cough is just as you describe.

Poor girls...

If it is really bad at night try raising the mattrress at the end that she sleeps by puuting a folded towel or something underneath the mattress. Cough tend to be worse at night when lying flat.

We resorted to Medised with dd2 last night, and it did help too (she has a permanently raised mattress, which does help - except when she rolls down the other end the wrong way up). If its bad at night.

Thanks. I have medised and have gave it to her before bed last night. It doesnt help with the tickle/hoarsness though.
