Purple nailbeds and toes in 7 year old - just the cold/bad circulation or symptom of something else?

My ds aged 7 gets very purple nail beds and toes when cold (even when it is not that cold) He is a very slender child, but eats very healthily and is very energetic. Is this a case of bad circulation or a sypmtom of something else that should be checked out. Have googled but can't find anything specific so anyone with any info or experience - would be greatly appreciated

Hi

I'll Ask my OH when he gets home. He's a chiropodist

The only thing I can say is that the nail bed in both fingers and toes can be used to diagnose the early stages of all sorts of conditions.

Does hes toes / fingers go purple as well?

Sorry but he's work at the moment

His toes do go purple when a bit cold but it's realy just the nail bed of his fingers that go purple. If I make him wear socks and warm up in general it disappears but I was rather shocked at just how purple they went this weekend when it wasn't even really that cold.

Also the big toe that went purple was on the foot he had bent in a funny sitting position for a while so that's why I thought it might have added to the bad circulation theory iykwim.

Didn't want to rush him to the dr's over something that seems so trivial on the surface but thought i would google and ask around just in case it's something I should be concerned about iyswim.
