Please talk to me positively about testicular torsion. 17 yr old ds had an undescended testicle stitched in place couple of yrs ago all good.

He woke up in pain today but it wasnt constant (eating, had a bath, watched tv and did college work whilst waiting for a gp to call).

Within ten mins of gp call, he was screaming in pain, drove like a nutter into a&e, fabulous care - really fabulous, right down to the security guard who sprinted to help carry my boy across the road.

Within two hours he was having surgery and I'm waiting to hear where they're going to park him when his c test comes back. Feel really shaken up.

My DS had a torsion 2 years ago when he was 12, it took 3 trips to the hospital before they decided to operate that night. He had been in excruciating pain. The op was meant to take around 30 mins but took quite a bit longer (I began to panic and got really upset) DH was at home with DD so I was on my own. A nurse came to get me and the doc explained that they anchored the testicle so it couldn't twist again and they also found a hernia so removed that too. DS was discharged the next morning and was a wee bit sore for a few days. Now he's 14 and doing great, sometimes gets a wee bit pain but it generally goes away after a short while. I'm sure your DS will be fine OP. Hugs Daffodil

Hope everything went well op Flowers

Thanks for the responses - he’s home, everything is anchored and the fears of removal are over. He’s feeling pretty crap and the op was a bit grim as they had no beds for 6 hours so he was in recovery for most of the night. Have never heard him so polite and effusively thankful as he was towards everyone with a lanyard. Off to bed now, thanks again.

I’m glad everything has gone well. I’m wishing your son a speedy recovery. I’m so glad you had such good treatment. The security guard sounds lovely too. These things make such a difference when we are going through terrible times.

It was all positive: every interaction, every conversation, every decision. I fucking love the NHS. Thanks for keeping me company and for your best wishes.

I hope your son is still doing well.

@cissyandflora thanks for checking in. He was back in hospital for lengthy and painful checks the day after he was discharged. Our local hospital is rammed full so they sent us home the minute they could with a shed load of drugs. He managed to have a shower today and we were all quite relieved about that. Onwards and upwards 😊
