Can anyone kindly tell me what the reading for Vitamin D is labelled as, on a set of blood test results, please?

On my tests it's just labelled as Vitamin D3 and Vitamin D2.

Hi there, it should be listed as Vitamin D or D3 or D2, if not then I suggest looking for Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3)

Crazycatstory · 22/01/2021 17:32

On my results it’s listed as 25 OH D.

Thanks all - I can't see it under any of those, guess it wasn't done that time. I didn't know if was standard on a general blood test?

It’s not part of a “standard” blood test

Luckingfovely · 23/01/2021 07:57

@SoosanCarter thank you, that's really interesting. So I had a full blood test in August which didn't test for Vit D, it seems.

But had another full blood test last week, which I thought was the same, but was notified that I was completely lacking in Vit D.

Was trying to look back to compare the results. Now I'm wondering why they tested for it this time but not last.

Because it's winter? Or because of Covid?

I don’t know the answer.
I had mine done when first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The consultant said they only test once a year max, although in fact I’ve not been tested since (about 6 years). I just take it daily.

There isn’t really such thing as a “full” or “standard” blood test. There are particular tests that you might request if someone is experiencing a certain symptom or if you are trying to rule out a condition in or out, but ultimately it is down to the doctor requesting the blood test to request which individual tests will be run. There might be variation between what two different doctors request for the same symptom. Or it could be that because the first tests didn’t show up anything and you were still having symptoms, they decided to do some extra tests the second time round.

It wouldnt be usual to test vit D in late summer months unless you had been shielding indoors all summer as most people get enough naturally over summer. However most people are deficient in UK by this time of year unless they are following government advice and taking supplements as you cant get enough from food or sun over winter in UK.

Thanks all, that has helped a lot.
