So I just had my very first root canal. I cannot believe how painful that was! My tooth is right down to the nerve the sensitivity was unbelievable! Now my cheek feels puffy and the pain is lovely. I don't even think childbirth was this bad!, I've even had wisdom teeth out awake and that wasn't as bad. I'm scared to go back for the next part now, can anyone share their root canal experiences with me please?

Something is wrong, OP.
After thoroughly numbing the area, The first thing they do is fully kill the root/nerve, there should be nothing left to give you pain now.
Really sorry. Yes tooth pain is almighty bad.

Just to say, my second dentist did my root canal in just one appointment. No second appointment was necessary. I am not an expert, so cannot say how or why. She has done 3 root canals for me inthe past 20 years, always one appointment. (Possibly she worried that I would do a runner...)

@BettyAndVeronica, I had a root canal 31 years ago which failed 2 months ago (the only symptom was a feeling of pressure as a result of a gum infection) - I had a apicoectomy to save the tooth a couple of weeks ago and my endodontist has assured me it should last for the rest of my days!

The only painful thing about the apicoectomy was the cost Sad

I'm still in pain after the root canal Wednesday. I know pain is normal but I am unsure if it's changed pre root canal! I'm still rattling with tablets if I'm still in pain the next few days I'm calling the dentist again. Altho I am scared as hell now after the amount of pain I can't live off tablets and I don't want there to be something more sinister going on and leaving it 🙈

I’ve just had the second of my two root canal treatments. I had injections for both. Both were uncomfortable and I felt slight pain at one point during the first procedure.

After the first one, I felt achey during the afternoon, and then had pain for about twenty four hours.

For the second one, I felt he was rougher but there was less pain. I did take some paracetamol topre-empt pain, but was okay.

ITo be honest, I was dreading the procedure, but it wasn’t actually that bad. I did have headphones on, and zoned out during the treatment to help with my anxiety.

Well had second part done today and it was painless! Dentist kept numbing me up and checking me this time. I kept saying how painful it was the first time! But honestly don't think he had numbed me enough before. If anyone was remotely interested haha just thought I'd update! I can't feel my whole left side currently but we are good

Mine didn’t hurt. It was a bit achey very occasionally, especially during the second and longer session where I only had one injection and it started to wear off.
It was mildly sore for a few days afterwards. The procedure was horrible though, the pressure of the dentist sticking that file right in your tooth root and then tanking it out, when they burn that stuff and put it in your tooth.. absolutely awful.

I didn't go to the dentist for a long time as I was too scared. Then about 18 years ago, my back tooth broke and I had to register with a dentist and get it looked at. I had the option of root treatment or removal. The thought of removal and having a hole til I heals makes me feel sick so I opted for the root treatment even though everyone said it was dead sore and it wouldn't last anyway.
I was dreading it. But it was one appointment and it was fine. Painless. Then I thought it was going to be sore once the numbness wore off. Nope. No pain at any point.
So that made a good impression on me of that dentist and have been going to him regularly since.
