Thankyou for your replies
How long did the treatment take ?
How long have you had them? Any complications or problems

How long do they last ?

I've got one implant. Treatment took about a year - but only because I had to have a bone graft which had to heal for 9 months. Implant was put in gum in July; had tooth place on it in October.

very pleased and would recommend in a heartbeat! Mine cost (minus graft) about £3.5k but I've got a London dentist.

Fameisthespur · 19/01/2021 20:16

I think if looked after and you have good dental hygiene they last a lifetime.

IntrovertEm · 19/01/2021 21:19

I had an implant put in 2 weeks ago. Upper front tooth.
Also had to have gum tissue transplant which was worse than the actual implant.

Tomorrowisanewday · 19/01/2021 21:23

I've had two. Very simple process. Implant done, then you go back about 3 months later to check its set properly. Then you can get the crown.

As PP said, around £3.5k each, but I think definitely worth it

cheezy · 19/01/2021 21:25

It doesn’t sound like a simple - or cheap - process!!
Following with interest as I would love an implant.

cheezy · 19/01/2021 21:27

Those of you with an upper front implant, can you now bite into an apple? I can’t imagine ever doing that.
When you are mid process do you have a temporary tooth or do you go around with the metal bit sticking out?

Both my front teeth are dental implants (18 when I had them done I'm now in my early 30s )

I can bite into an apple etc easily ... I forget that they arnt actually my teeth a lot of the time. I had dentures from 14-18 so it took a while to actually trust that I could bite things!

Applejack87 · 19/01/2021 21:44

Wow real unicorn your implants have lasted , have you ever had any problems I.e infections
I’ve read that implants have to be kept meticulously clean & regular hygienist appointments

I have 2 dental implants from where I knocked out my front upper teeth in an accident. I had them put in 16 years ago after a bio- oss bone graft. They are still going strong! Only just need wing to be replace as mine have slightly discoloured crowns. This time I’m getting porcelain crowns so will last even longer. The actual working implant is fantastic and my dentist said is good for another 16 years or more. Cost me £6000 for the 2 implants and the bone graft but it was 16 years ago.

realunicorn · 19/01/2021 21:54

I could take more care of them - I smoked in the past ( 18 and stupid!) and I know that's a big no no.

I've had 3 dc, I find with each pregnancy my gums do get worse and I have to up my dental hygiene, the gum area around my implants has receded slightly but you can't tell unless I physically lift my lip and show you. I pay extra for a good dental plan that includes regular hygienist appointments.

I've never had an infection. And you 100% can't tell they arnt my teeth.

I've had the crown on one replaced when I was 21 (so still 10 years ago) it was slightly loose but that's been the only issue I've had

3u33y · 19/01/2021 21:54

Similar to me @realunicorn I was 20 when I got mine after 5 years with a palate denture- now 36

openallthetime · 19/01/2021 22:01

recently had one, bottom premolar. It was about £1250, not very expensive compared to others! I went to a specialist implant centre, they do them all the time so can offer a much better price than private normal dentist and have their own inhouse place where they make the implants. Also worth going to a specialist place because the experience they have is much better they do them so often.

Shop around for a few quotes, and try to haggle. Apparently dentists love to haggle! you might get a little off by bartering.

I think each implant is different, if you need bone grafts (I didn't) it will cost more.

The most painful bit was them placing it but they didn't use anaesthetic. I believe they can though if you want them to.

Much better for chewing and eating!

TheDogsMother · 19/01/2021 22:10

I have an upper front implant which is now c 20 years old. It took about a year in total as I had to have bone grafts. It cost about £3k at the time at a private dentist in central London. There were very few places it could be done at that time. Yes I can and do bite into apples.

mrsrobin · 19/01/2021 22:34

I have one, never had a problem, can bite on apples etc, don't even think about it. You can't tell any difference between it and my real teeth - but this can depend on the material you decide to have it made from - the most expensive, of course, looks best.
I floss every day without fail and go to the hygienist about every 8 months or so - although she always says there is nothing for her to do! It is very important to look after them but really worth it :)
