I have another thread in this topic but throught I would start one with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome in the title to catch the attention of anyone who may have this condition.

If you do have CVS, I'd like to compare notes with what my dd is experiencing (no definitive diagnosis as yet)

My DD had it between the ages of about 4 and 7/8. She's not had an episode for about a year.

With her, she'd wake in the middle of the night coughing, vomit explosively a couple of times and then go back to sleep. In the morning, she'd be pale and tired and sometimes have a little diarrhea, but would be back to normal by mid-afternoon the next day.

We just thought she was getting multiple stomach bugs - until she had 2 in about a week. I kept a food diary and we worked out that it was a combination of acidic food (tomatoes, oranges etc) within a couple of hours of bedtime, combined with lack of sleep the night before.

I seem to remember the consultant we saw was called Chong/Chung - we only saw him once and we had a letter for school so that she didn't need to stay off for 48hours after she had it - although she was never well enough the next day for school.

Thank you - I think we do need to look at some foodstuffs as potential triggers

I'm I HCP but I"m not good with food stuff, so you need to seek a proper opinion. GP's aren't great either so I printed out the NHS cyclical vomiting page when we asked for our referral and found out the consultant that we needed to see before our appointment as most GP 's have never heard of the condition.

I know this is an old thread but just thought I’d ask @LimitIsUp how this turned out? My dd is 9 and I suspect she has this

@Eatentoomanyroses you are probably better starting your own thread. But I had CVS in my late teens into my late 20's, with it going from pure CVS to classic migraine (but still vomiting alas) over that time. For me, all the things that don't help my migraines in my 50's would contribute to a CVS - dehydration, lack of sleep, too much sugar but at least with a migraine I have a chance to notice one is coming rather than the waking up and knowing I'd be vomming for 16 hours of CVS with no warning.

@underneaththeash

It eventually became apparent that dd was having a nervous breakdown at the time, and it was acute anxiety which was causing her to vomit so much.

There is a Facebook group on CVS which you may find useful

@LimitIsUp DD issues have now evolved to migraines - stomach and head. As the consultant predicted. She now only vomits at school (with the migraines)..
@Eatentoomanyroses take the NHS page to your GP as we did. The food diary really helped too.
