Daughters verruca. Is it dead yet?

Hello everyone,

My 10 year old daughter has a verruca which we have been treating meticulously for around 11 weeks now.

About 7 days ago, a black clump came out which I assume was the verruca. All that remained was a hole with a couple of black specs. More dark has now appeared kind of like clumps and strands but looking a bit like cauliflour. I just wondered if it sounds like these are dead bits pushing out or is this still the virus...... Do we need to keep using bazuka or maybe a trip to the GP?

Thanks in advance.

If it looks like cauliflower then I would keep treating it. Sometimes they fall out and come back a couple of times

Sometimes the bits come out in patches you can gently remove them if it doesn’t hurt your DD. I did this with my DD and it left a neat hole just covered it with a plaster and it soon disappeared.
I would not see a GP for this type of thing unless you were worried it was infected or something.

does not sound dead. I would go to a podiatrist as you can get a allergy to the bazooka if you use it too long.

WhoWants2Know thank you. To be safe we are continuing bazuka for now until we can be sure. I always had problems with verrucas as a child so remember it well unfortunately. Thanks again.

ilovebagpuss thanks. We are continuing with bazuka just now as it does look like it's just the dead bits coming out. DD is too sore with it so we aren't picking at it. Only reason I would phone the GP is because of how sore it is for her. So we'll give it another wee while treating at home and then phone GP FOR advice on whether it may need frozen off. Thanks

RinkyD. thanks. I'll bear that in mind. I forgot we actually had a week off treatment quite early on as it seemed to have gone away. So next week will be 12 weeks. Thanks.

I think picking at it spreads is, I have had a mighty battle with one evil one and gave up and went to the podiatrist. They will cut away the surrounding skin, it can be much bigger than you think. I hated the nightly battles with it.

You've got to get rid of every single black dot of it or it'll come back.

I've heard duct tape can work, apparently.

Those black specks are the blood supply to the verucca. It’s not dead. Keep going!!!

My DD developed one in the summer (god knows how, with covid it was months since she’d been swimming), one turned into FOUR on different places Shock and they took about four months to go. Keep on with the gel and attack it when you can (not when it’s sore).

I caught a wart from those verrucas - hers went in august, and mine has literally only JUST gone. They are absolute bastards to get rid of, 11 weeks is barely scratching the surface. Keep going!!

Sadly it took over 2 years for my sons multiple verrucas to go. Eventually I gave up treating them as we both lost the will to live!!! Then suddenly they just disappeared about 3 months after I stopped treatment.

Bloody hall, 2 years!!!!!
