Anyone tell me if this is kidney stone?

I've been struggling with what seem like recurring UTIs for a few months. GP confirmed UTI in October, but I'm a bit unsure if I should try to make another appointment. Issue is less the burning pain on urination, and more the unbelievable pain in my right side - but it comes and goes. When it comes, it's usually when I'm a bit dehydrated and it's as bad as labour. Is it worth bothering her again??

You should. My personal experience with kidney stone was never a burning pain with urination but rather an increased urge to pee and mostly a feeling of incomplete evacuation of bladder. The pain you are describing could indicate kidney stones. An ultrasound might help to give a complete picture.
What really helps me when I have stones is Andrews Salt. Drink 2-3 times a day. Citrate helps to dissolve stones though it is a slow process. The salt itself makes the urine less acidic and will ease the urine urge. And on one occasion it helped me to pass a kidney stone of 6mm. What a joy that was 😂

Hi,

Is the pain making you nauseous? Is it on one side only? Is it constant?

You need to be drinking fluids. This is a must. Heat pack or hot water helps. Also painkillers such as ibrofen or co - codomal.

I would ask the doctor for painkillers to help with the pain.

I have had kidney stones on both sides, and the pain is indescribable. I was vomiting and in constant pain. When l think back on how much pain l was in, l don't know how l managed.

Please, please make sure that you keep on at the doctor until you are given treatment. That was the only way l managed to get treatment

I have this at the moment but on left side. am on more antibiotics but told to phone gp if not better by fri. I dont think it will be to be honest. Ive had several 'uti's' recently and though the pain dulls it comes back again after a few days.

Yeah it makes me feel sick when it's really bad, kind of in the same way as in labour. I'm hoping it goes away on its own as it has done before! She did say she'd do an ultrasound eventually but since that's probably a six months wait I'll try the salts!

Shock Thats a long time to wait. Im hoping that mine isnt one or that they sort it quickly. cant imagine having this pain for 6 months!

@GooodMythicalMorning I know. I kind of live in fear of it! Have looked up online that apparently some foods can be bad. Apparently including chocolate and tea. I'm pretending I didn't read that. My chocolate and my tea is special Grin

@tatutata you should cut out tomatoes, caffeine, chocolate and sugary / energy drinks.

Drink a lot of water - particularly before you go to bed (even though it means you are waking up to pee)

I've had kidney stones and both times it has been treated in A and E - I hate painkillers but as soon as confirmed they've given me morphine. They are excruciating.

Do you have a GP base in A and E? The only reason I am asking is because they have ultrasounds there and it is significantly quicker to get one. Before anyone slams me for this comment I had a kidney infection which they had to rule out another stone before treatment...

tatutata · 14/01/2021 09:54

@GlobeUs thanks. I've been drinking like crazy. I went to my normal GP. I think I'm just not confident of getting anything done given our covid case rate locally is about 1000/100k.

I don't know if it actually works but apparently lemon juice in water helps break up stones due to the citric acid. Dont know if it actually does or how long it would take but may help if you have to wait a while. (I'm cautiously trying it)
