LOW Blood Pressure - advice please

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 27/10/2007 11:22

I've only ever had low blood pressure and it's not really been a problem. I went to EPU yesterday (possible problems with early pregnancy) and they said I had low blood pressure and must be very careful getting up etc - explains the recent dizzy spells!!

Anyway, I woke up in bed this morning feeling VERY weak and light headed - this is LAYING DOWN. I waited til dh came upstairs then called for him to help me up. I've been up about half hour and still feel a little weird - sitting here feeling spaced out (best way to describe it).

What can I do/take to help this? I'm back working on Monday after a week off (I'm a childminder) and can't look after the kids if I feel like this so really need to sort myself out.

Any idea's?

TIA

No idea mate, but im now almost 36 weeks and im the same.

My BP has been low all the way through, am feeling "spaced out" most days until at least lunchtime.

Can NHS direct offer any advice?! Ive just got on with it TBH, but Ive been lucky in that DH has been home to help.

Symapthies, and hope someone can help asap x

I am 16weeks pregnant and fainted about 2 weeks ago, again, due to low blood pressure, the docs just told me that I had to be careful getting up laying down etc, I did try looking it up but couldnt find anything that said what to do about it.

I have quite low BP normally but when I'm PG it gets even lower. My lowest reading was 71/40, the MW couldn't believe her eyes when she took and said I should be on the floor with it that low.

I only ever had one fainting spell (in barclays banks!) over all 4 pregnancies so I think i was very lucky.
IME the only way to reduce the risks of fainting/dizziness is to eat almost constantly. When your blood sugar levels drop you'll feel really shaky which is prob why you felt so dizzy in bed because you hadn't eaten for a while.

HTH..

Thanks. I would just get on with it normally and have been (although this morning is the first time I've felt so bad), I suppose I just worry about the children in my care as when I'm working (especially Mon-Wed when I have 4 kids under 5 yrs old), I have to rush around a lot and normally it's ok but right this moment I feel so weak I can hardly even get up lol. Hopefully I'll be ok for Monday - wouldn't be so worried if just ds but it's the smaller ones I worry about, especially baby crawler who will get into everything she can if she's not being watched ALL the time!

I'm only 5+6 atm, I should know next Friday whether or not I'm progressing.

Thanks again for the advice.

LadyTophamHatt - thanks for that, that will explain it then. So I need SUGAR - what a shame, must have chocolate then Seriously though, I did say to dh I feel like I could eat a big steak so that makes sense so thanks. I don't remember what the reading was (too upset tbh) but she did say 78 over something and just insisted I was very careful (lucky dh was there to listen to that! )

Thanks again

Oh, yh bloodsuckinglooney, I forgot the blood sugar thingy, I always drink some pop before I get out of bed, makes me feel a bit better.

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 27/10/2007 11:54

Good idea - will try that

funnily enough, the time I fainted in barclays I was starving after and went and bought a staek pie!!

I felt fine after that....

  • I've just told dh that my 2 marmite crumpets weren't enough and I really NEED to go to nice pub we went to a few weeks ago (when I had my first trip out on back of dh's motorbike - didn't know i was pg!) and have their yummy chicken, bacon and avacado salad starter with a BIG steak burger after!!

Actually......another question......can this low blood pressure bring overwhelming hot flushes at times??? I get that quite a lot in the last week(ish) and just thought it might explain them.

Thanks

I know I get a lot of headaches, which too can be the lbp, bot sure about flushes though.

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 27/10/2007 12:17

Ok, thanks. I don't get headaches - suppose I'm lucky

I'm the same as you, always have low blood pressure around 80/50 and it dropped in pregnancy. I fainted a lot, especially on the bus. Orange juice helped and lots of water. I also found I was anaemic which contributed. Are you taking a supplement like Pronatal?

I had terrible hot flushes with it which then made me faint even more. Wear layers so you can always take something off and look after yourself.

Good luck to you, I hope it all turns out well.

LadyTophamHatt · 27/10/2007 12:21

I would imagine hot flushes are just because your PG. Not so much the LBP.

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 27/10/2007 12:28

Thanks people, I did think it was pregnancy at first which caused the hot flushes but I'm so early on plus all my symptoms went on Monday and we're not sure it's a viable pg anymore so I did wonder if it's the LBP causing it. My jumpers are on/off/on/off!

Right, off to have a wash and going for that pub lunch

Thanks
