Headaches in morning (sinus or sinister?)

Lemons1571 · 09/01/2021 16:26

For a fortnight now I’ve woken up with a headache. Well, the instant I wake it doesn’t hurt at all, but as soon as I move my head it triggers the aching. It aches most of the day but always a bit worse on waking. Worst on the top and front of my head. I’m muzzy headed and a bit brain fogged with it. If I press on my scalp it hurts a bit less
(which I know is weird). It responds to ibuprofen and codeine well.

Also have an on and off crackling/popping sound in my head (like crackly static) and ears crackling / feeling full. Also feel a bit, not dizzy, more like I’m veering around and not upright (but I look ok to other people).

I have some antibiotics so am going to try them to see if it’s sinuses. I am of course worried about tumours and keep trying to “test” my eyes on looking at different things. Vision seems ok but i might book an eye check anyway.

Also wondered if the cold weather could upset my sinuses even though I’ve not had a cold recently?

Anyone got any thoughts as to what this could be or what I could try? Red flags?

You should speak to your GP
That's really the best bet.
My DM had a BT and getting up from bed would knock her severely dizzy and nauseous with vomiting. The headache from the pressure were like nothing she had ever felt before, painkillers didn't touch it.
Don't take AB's that you have laying around, you may not need them or they may not be the correct ones or dose for any issue you have.
Again your GP

GP to check of course

I have headaches like that which are sinus related though. They aren't infected, they are just shit. I find nasal spray helps and used to get a lush one on prescription but the gp said I wasn't allowed it any more. So now it's beconase

Well it was a bit better this morning compared to previous mornings. Not had any nausea or extreme dizziness since this started. Ears still feel slightly blocked and are popping / crackling on and off.

I am beginning to think it may be related to a previous health issue, as last night I had some odd symptoms (brief area of numbness in a toe, head sensation like a washing machine on spin). I’ve had the odd bout of these scattered brief oddities over the years, thorough neuro investigations and scans were clear. I suspect it may gradually go away. Anyway there’s no chance a GP will see me on a Sunday so we’ll see what happens today.

Are GP’s actually seeing people in the flesh at the moment?

Do you grind your teeth at night? I get headaches and sore/crackly ears from grinding my teeth and I have a splint from the dentist that helps.

Hi Lemons, I had similar symptoms last April: crackling/popping ears, headaches, dizziness, tinnitus when lying down etc. The dizziness and feeling woozy was so severe that I couldn't drive or ride my bicycle. My Dr suggested that it was sinusitis. I also grind my teeth as someone above suggested.

It took months to go completely and I was extremely anxious that it was something sinister.

Olemis · 10/01/2021 11:37

My GP is still seeing patients. I had several over the phone consultations during the start of the first 'lockdown' and them saw doctors twice with the symptoms as they wanted to examine my ears.

Graffitiqueen · 10/01/2021 11:39

Grinding my teeth also sometimes makes me dizzy.

I had a month of work with what was finally diagnosed as a vestibular migraine from grinding my teeth.

aceyace · 10/01/2021 11:43

My dentist diagnosed teeth grinding by the smoothness of molars and his pressed near my tm joint inside my mouth and it was very sore, (behind and above top molars)
I often wake with a headache

addler · 10/01/2021 11:49

I get this when I'm dehydrated or leave the heating on overnight. I have chronic sinusitis and it just makes everything bunged up.

Sounds similar to me. The “episodes” I’ve had previously haven’t involved a headache, but I do now have some other symptoms similar to the previous episodes eg extremities go numb while sleeping but feeling comes back when I stand up.

I don’t know if I grind my teeth or not. The dentist asked me this a couple of weeks ago and I said no (but would I know if I did?)

Currently my head is feeling “full”. Ears keep popping every so often in a crackly way. No real pain though (but ibuprofen is magic for this)

@Lemons1571 how are you now? I’ve had this for months!

Lemons1571 · 23/03/2021 19:48

It comes and goes. I get months between each “episode”. No idea what it is but it’s been coming and going for years 🤷🏼‍♀️

May be worth looking into a condition called PPPD or vestibular (silent) migraine. I have both of these and what you're describing is how mine started x

Mehripoop · 23/03/2021 20:11

@SylviaPlath1984 what do you take for it?

Elieza · 23/03/2021 20:24

In some people there is a link between dairy and mucous.

Stop eating all dairy for a fortnight and see if it makes a difference.

I notice similar issues if I eat biscuits or cakes etc as even the small amount of milk in the mixture or chocolate coating can set me off. I can then hear my heartbeat in my ear.

Acupuncture fixes it. But if I eat dairy again it happens again. Which is annoying.

JustDanceAddict · 24/03/2021 08:39

DS had similar recently. All investigations clear but still has crackly ears. I need to chase up GP re a spray she said she was going to prescribe.
