DS1 has had diarrhoea (is that how you spell it?!!) since Saturday. Not that frequent, maybe 3-4 times a day but it's not clearing up and to make matters worse he has really bad nappy rash. Phoned GP today - receptionist spoke to Dr who said they wouldn't generally give anything to an 'under 3 yr old' - he's just turned 3. How long should I wait before contacting again (we were told to leave in a sample if it hasn't cleared in 2-3 more days but can't let it go on that long surely). Also, what should I be feeding him. I've cut out drinks of milk - he had milk on weetabix for breakfast today and had no reaction til after lunch (hoops) - thought he was clear at that stage. Dinner was toast, dry cornflakes and some apple - and another nappy (albeit smallish) afterwards.

What does anyone recommend in terms of food and following up with dr. Can a bug last this long?

Thanks

My dd age 2 and half had runny poo for 6 days last week, most days it was only 1 and on 2 of the days it was 3 poos, she was totally well in herself, didnt need extra sleep and ate the same food she normally does. Then it just stopped and she is fine now. Im sure she had too much of something and it just upset her tummy....she had eaten quite a few haribo sweets and then we made cakes the day before it started and we made loads of different very brightly coloured icings to top them with.....and in making them she ate quite a bit. Im sure it was this that did it. I would make sure he has plenty of liquid, keep an eye on him and if it hasnt stopped after 5-6 days get a pot and take in a sample.
