He's voice is sounding abit funny so I looked down his thought and his tonsils are really swollen. Feeling his neck his glands are like golfballs but he's absolutely fine.

Isn't ill at all, isn't complaining, he;s just completely fine.

Is it because he had his pre-school jabs? so he's getting all the symptons but no pain etc.

I've given him some calpol incase he start feeling ill during the night but they were swollen yesterday too so I doubt he will....

Do I need to take him to the Docs tomorrow?

Swollen galnds would be normal after jabs an can take a while to go down (up to 6 weeks in extreme cases I think).

Swollen glands can also be a response to a viral infection - so no antibitiocs there either.

If he is otherwise well I probably wouldn't worry. I doubt that GP would do anything unless there are other symptoms - although getting his tonsils checked probably wouldn't hurt if you are worried.

TBH, I'm not entirely sure if the golfballs like glands are his tonsils or vice versa IYSWIM.

Both seem very swollen, I'm not sure theres enough room in his neck for them BOTH to be swollen....

has he got a high temp? if not, it's the jab, I'd say.

mammyjo · 25/10/2007 21:22

Are his tonsils really big? Only reason I ask is that if they get too big, can cause some breathing difficulty. Dont want to scare you, but just thought I would mention it. Assuming he is not complaining of pain at all?

LadyTophamHatt · 25/10/2007 21:23

Hes gone to bed now, but I didn't take his temp. He certainly didn't feel hot and hasn't been all day....

mammyjo, I did think about that but there is a gap between his tonsils, not a huge one but there not touching at all, he's been eating and drinking fine all day.

Sorry, should have said that it is unusual and rare for them to be that big. Sorry, have probably scared the living daylights out of you now. >

mammyjo · 25/10/2007 21:26

If he is eating and drinking fine, then hopefully they will just go down on their own. If if was me, I think I might take him to the gp just for peace of mind tbh. I do worry though!!

mammyjo · 25/10/2007 21:27

If IT was me even!

Neverenoughpumpkins · 25/10/2007 21:29

If he is well in himself you could probably wait a day or two and see what transpires.
He won't have a problem with breathing(but if he did you'd be able to see)
Children have large tonsils normally and they shrivel up as the child gets older and most adults have vestigial ones only.
As always go by your maternal instincts!

LadyTophamHatt · 25/10/2007 21:48

It was pre-school booster and his MMR sO I think its that.....but they are really swollen. More so then his older brothers were when they had them.

ut thinking about it, they only hd the booster. the MMr was done much earlier, not all together.

I think I've answered my own question!

Hope he is ok today

LadyTophamHatt · 26/10/2007 10:29

Took him to the docs this morning. Its a viral thing rather than tonsilitus or the jabs.
Will keep him dosed up with calpol as his temp was slightly high, Doc said to keep checking his throat for pussy spots incase it changes to tonsilitus but he doubts it will.

Oh well, at least you know now. Glad he is ok
