Non specific tummy pain

Our 3 year old daughter has had a sore tummy for about 3 weeks. She's been to the doctors a few times and bloods and urine samples have been taken and come back negative. She isn't tender to the touch but is saying it is her belly button that hurts. Sometimes she doubles over in sudden and acute pain then whines and moans. This can occur at any time of the day and doesn't seem to be related to feeding. Yesterday, completely out of character she sat quietly and listlessly on the sofa all afternoon, not wanting to play, read, sing, glue, paint, etc. (Like most toddlers she is usually extremely active). Her mood is tetchy and irritable and she has started to cling and scream at bedtime - whether this is relevant or not, we don't know. Has anyone's toddler experienced 'non-specific' tummy pain and if so how did you handle it. Would be very grateful for any tips and advice. Thank you.

Yes, all very familiar.

DS2 had this in reception last year, usually happened on the days they had PE (getting changed on his own, bless, finding PE kit, a lot of stress for a four-year-old)

The Dr explained to me that it is like having a headache in their tummies, treat with calpol, and that they grow out of it. As indeed he did.

The children specifically 'site' the (very real) pain precisely at their tummy button, this apparently is the symptom that shows that there is usually nothing sinister going on.

Has she had a change in routine/started nursery/gone blank recently ?

dd2 has had tummy pains for around 10 days, been to the drs and she said it's a virus. DD2 is def unwell, she is shattered, sleeping in, a little bit off her food and her behaviour is horrid so I know she is ill.

Driving me nuts and no idea how long it will last for

Thank you Vooju and CarGirl. No change in routine, but I suppose her imagination is at its creative best at the moment and I wonder if that is stressing her. It makes sense that they articulate pain as being in their tummies as that is probably the part of the body they notice most - ie being full/empty. Mood is still awful but hopefully she'll be ok soon....

Thanks again.
