12 weeks vaccine + BCG

Hi - my baby has her 12 week vaccine next week but she's also got her BCG booked the day after - I've asked at the surgery if this is safe but they said they didn't know!?

Does anyone know if this is a problem - even if it's technically safe, is it going to make things worse / more uncomfortable? I'd rather wait a week between if we can.

You should not give any vaccine at the same injection site as BCG for 3 months - something to do with lymp nodes. That is the only rule I know of.

@Literallyfedup thank you for your reply

do you know where the BCG vaccine is usually administered? The arm?

I think the 12 week is in the thigh.

do you know if its just the site of injection that the issue? would they be ok within a day of each other?

At 12 weeks it's usually in the thigh. My DD was 18 months when she got it so it was in the arm.
In many low income countries BCG is given with hib and dpt vaccine on the same day so may be it is not an issue but I can't say 100% if it is a safe practice.
Just wanted to let you know that my DD got a blister at around 4 weeks after getting BCG which took a long time to go away. The doctor said that was normal.

Here is the link of patient leaflet for BCG which clearly indicates that it can be administered with other vaccines

Sorry posted too soon - it could be given with other vaccines provided other vaccines are not live vaccines.

If they are safe to have at the same time would it not be better from a covid perspective to have both vaccinations in one appointment rather than having to return the following day?
I would be disappointed at the "don't know" answer from the surgery.

@Literallyfedup thanks so much for your help!

@Unicornflakegirl - thanks, totally agree but they are a day apart at different surgeries! Hoping it is safe but will call the surgery again tomorrow and hope for a better answer, I was disappointed too!

Hello. I just wanted to check if you decided to leave a gap or not? I have 3 days between my little ones jabs and GP is not really giving much advice around it.

As per Green Book March 2022, live vaccines (bcg and rotarix are) can be given at any time before or after each other. Some live vaccines require an interval or to be given on the same day but not the ones mentioned. I’m a GP nurse and this often gets confusing.
