Before I bother my GP does this look like a shingles rash (PHOTO)

Could this be shingles? One side only, chest & under boob. Burning sensation & sore to touch and it looks like little blisters. I didn't get chicken pox till I was 40. I'm just wondering if I need to chat to my GP as I'm a support bubble for my elderly & frail parents so want to make sure. I know it's only contagious from the blisters though but better safe than sorry.

I've had a bit of a temperature & worn out but put that down to festivities.

Obviously not looking for a firm diagnosis!

Thank you oh wise ones!

No photo!

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 16:24

No photo but it sounds like it could be if localised on one side of the body. Might be worth seeing if you can get antivirals

iklboo · 01/01/2021 16:27

That would help wouldn't it! Doh!

I was diagnosed by a pharmacist, then phoned my GP who prescribed an anti-viral med and pain meds.

Orchidflower1 · 01/01/2021 16:31

Looks sore op. Interestingly I have a row of about 4 blotches like than on my tummy but I put it down to dry skin/ fungal type thing/ wash powder so I’d be interested to see the replies.

It must be a worry if you have to care for family.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 01/01/2021 16:36

Looks sore but not sure it looks like shingles. Best to get it seen really as they would start you on medication if shingles.

Regarding other people shingles can give someone chicken pox but only through direct contact with the blisters, unlike chicken pox. So if they are coverable you are safe.

iklboo · 01/01/2021 16:41

Thank you - think I'll pop to the pharmacist tomorrow (closed now) for a 'got any leeches for this?' chat GrinShock

Have you been tested for covid if you have had a temperature?

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/01/2021 16:53

I’d say no, it doesn’t look like the shingles Dd has had.

Rina66 · 01/01/2021 16:56

Shingles is usually more red and angry than that, I’m not sure if you can get it mildly though?

Myshinynewname · 01/01/2021 17:19

If you have had a temperature get a covid test and don't go to the pharmacy. Lots of covid patients get a rash. I had covid in March and had an odd tingly rash for a few days before I felt ill.

Calmisthemantra · 01/01/2021 17:26

Looks fungal - which would fit with the location

PuppyMonkey · 01/01/2021 17:26

Shingles rash when I had it was unusual because it didn’t so much feel sore or itchy like a normal rash, it felt painful and you couldn’t bear to touch it. I had it on my back and i couldn’t lean back on a chair because it really hurt. Does it feel like that at all OP?

Your rash looks a bit like intertrigo to me? You get that under boobs?

iklboo · 01/01/2021 17:29

Booked a COVID test for tomorrow - temp only started last night. Best safe with that one, especially with parents. I was hoping / thinking it's probably more fundal but as it's only on one side I had a weird thought.

If it is you will need to take anti-viral meds ASAP to reduce severity so I would get a medical Opinion.
My DS had them and it looks like CP or a bite. They were very itchy!
