Painful coccyx!

EmmaJW1976 · 24/10/2007 11:34

I have had a painful coccyx for the past year.

I think it started after going for a really long bike ride.

It only hurts when I have been sitting for a while and then stand up. It feels really bruised.

I went to my GP who simply referred me for physio. I had ultrasound treatment to it and was then discharged as they could do nothing more.

Meanwhile, it is so sore!

Anyone else had this?

It could be dislocated, have you tried osteopathy?

EmmaJW1976 · 24/10/2007 19:34

No, can it dislocate? Sorry to be thick but what is osteopathy?

A stress fracture has been mentioned but my GP has never requested an x-ray or anything.

snap! I hurt mine almost 18 months ago coming down a slide with DD at a soft play centre...

It only hurts after sitting down for a while and then standing up...

And if I press it.

I haven't bothered going to the docs as not sure what they could do..

I am not sure if can be treated but will watch this thread with interest....

Sorry not much help to you - other to let you know that you are not alone...

It's a manipulation treatment, I have actually read about treating coccyx in Jan de Vries book. It's about £40 per treatment.

My son and also me have had osteopathy in the past and very pleased. Ours is very knowledgeable and also gives us a lot of nutritional advice.

I have had this since the birth of my daughter a year ago. It completely settles down as long as I sit on my special coccyx cushion , which has a cut out at the back - if I forget and start sitting in the car/feeding her without sitting on the cushion, it flares up again - I really would recommend one!!

I've had this. Remember going to see Brokeback Mountain and thought I must look like a right perv craning forward out of my seat!

I had a very beneficial treatment from an osteopath which might have needed repeating but thankfully didn't as it involved him manipulating the coccyx via a finger up my bum which wasn't remotely painful just rather embarrassing. I took my mum. The cushions really help. Hope it gets better soon for you. Mine stuck around for ages but is fine now.
