How to sleep with severe pain in the early hours?

I'll try to be a bit vague as to not out myself, but what else can I do to help myself?

Awaiting surgery for painful condition. I'm on co-codamol and anti inflammatories. I'm coping in the day time, but at night I wake up crying in pain around 4am. I guess the painkillers are wearing off by then.

I'm reaching the end of my tether after3 months of this. Pain before, but not on this level.I literally don't know what to do. I asked my gp via e consult for help. was written a prescription for the same thing. Now it's nearly Christmas, so Ive probably left it too late.

I feel like an utter drama queen, but it's affecting my ability to think clearly. I don't want Christmas to be even crappier than it is.

Thank you Gelis, I think that I'll hang on til I know a bit more whether the surgery is going to happen and then ask to be on the list if it isn't.

I'm definitely going to try changing my medication pattern, throw in the pregabalin (tempted to wait til Boxing Day so we can enjoy some wine over Christmas) and try using a bean bag to sit up more in bed with. I wish we had a spare room, then I'd be able to decamp to it and make more of a nest and have everything I need to make it comfy.

I'm so glad I asked Sea I'll look up those exercises. I need to be really careful according to the surgeon.

Wonder if I can get a massage thing delivered quickly.

Thank you fatsatsuma. I do need to focus on it if I can, we've got some very interesting weather on the way I think.

Frozen shoulder and rotator cuff tendinopathy. I was already on the surgery list for the tears, then this kicked in. It's astonishing how painful it is and I've had my fair share of painful stuff. Collapsed sobbing this afternoon with white hot pain when I tried to get the presents out of the wardrobe and one thing fell out and I tried to catch it unthinkingly. dh wants me just to sit very still I think!
I'm having physio by zoom, so I'll chat with them tomorrow.

I have sciatica due to 3 bulging discs in my spine. I'm currently on Pregabalin Naproxen and co codamol. I have been in the Pregabalin for a week and feel that it's only just starting to have an effect so my advice would b me to start taking it as soon as possible. I would have thought that alcohol is not advisable with what you are already taking.
Hoping for surgery soon but have been advised to try an epidural pain killing injection first to try to let it heal naturally.

I know it sounds stupid but I got one of those acupressure mats and its really helped me sleep when I was being kept awake by a chronic pelvis issue.
Might be worth a try, it was 20 quid off amazon - think its called pro wellbeing or something
Poor you Flowers

I have horrendous shoulder pain during the night due to rheumatoid arthritis. I find a TENS machine helps a bit. I also sleep totally propped up by pillows / extra duvets. I also often listen to audio books during the night because 3am can be a dark and lonely place. I really hope your new meds help.

Dr may prescribe a small dose of amitriptyline to take at bedtime . I'm only on 10 mg but it helps me sleep through.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2020 21:09

I've got so much to try now :) hopefully it will help others too. I'm sorry to hear about everyone else who is suffering.

Is it worth trying a Tens machine?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2020 21:57

It could be. A hot wheat bag along my forearm seems to be helping.

Hi lovely - I live in constant pain too and only just managed with co codamol 30/ 500 and is apparently the best mix for nerve pain as breaks down into morphine - I can’t take naproxen or gabepentin but they might work for you as have a sensitive stomach - using amitryptaline for mood is great when in pain it also helps with sleep and nerve pain and a great way to boost the other meds you are taking but I only take them when can fully sleep - prn dose and really work as I also wake up every 4 hours too Shock and this tiny 10mg dose stops this happening but can make me Doozy the next day so have to plan ahead good luck

Just saw crossed messaged soz

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2020 22:17

It's very kind of you.
I wish I could take amitryptyline. It is effective, but my gp won't let me have it after it sent my heart rate too high.

See if the 22 hour anti inflammatory (name escapes me) is available/suitable to you. Much better than naproxen. GPS don’t like prescribing as expensive but I think for a short course until an op- it might be worth an ask.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2020 07:57

I didn't know there was one. I'll see if I can find out about it thanks!
I actually got a reasonable nights sleep last night. Broken, but I managed to doze on and off til 7:30 which is quite awesome really.
