Throbbing pain under dental crown

I have a crowned tooth, which previously had root canal, and something has gone horribly wrong.

Started feeling pain on Friday, was up all Saturday night as it got progressively worse and started throbbing. When I poke my tongue around up there I can feel a slight gap between the crown and the gum and I think food and/or bacteria has got in there and it's got infected.

Called emergency dentist hotline thing and dentist prescribed me antibiotics over the phone.

Am taking them and they are starting to work I think as the pain has lessened slightly, but is still there.

Tried to call a regular dentist today but every single NHS one just rang and rang and nobody was picking up.

I have an appointment with a private dentist on Weds but what can they do? I'm going to lose the tooth aren't I?

I would imagine once infection has subsided they might remove it and dependant where it is offer a bridge or implant or if not an option partial plate?

Dentists are very into conserving as much as they can.

Private dentist also offer payment plans so if it is a possibility don't rush for the cheapest option

My husband recently had similar with a crowned tooth .

It's still in place and repatched/treated dentist thinks it may be on borrowed time but he seems to have fixed it.
Fingers crossed.

For the last two years I've been getting pain in my left ear and that side of my cheek would get warm, stupid me never associated it with dental issues but I think I've been battling low level infections for a while.

I would rather lose it tbh than put up with any more infections, it's a huge ugly metal (cheap) crown that I'm really embarrassed by, I'd be less embarrassed by a gap.
