Metronidazole

So I posted the other day after my root canal. Unfortunately I began to have pain which has gotten progressively worse and it’s now nearly a week since my treatment. 🥺 It’s fine unless I move my face in a way that puts pressure on the gums and then it’s Not Fine.

So I phoned my dentist and I’m anticipating him prescribing me metronidazole when he phoned back. He isn’t the one who did my treatment but he was the one who decided I needed the root canal and he did prescribe me those antibiotics to take in case it hurt, which it never did until I had the fucking treatment. I imagine he will tell me to get the prescription filled.

I’m allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin. I know I can’t drink on metronidazole which sucks over Christmas. Just the last straw really to not be able to have a glass of wine. But what I want to know is how rough do they make you feel in general? Feeling sick, diahorrea, etc? I’m gutted that this is happening.

@Fluffycloudland77 I didn't know what that and it makes perfect sense as the reaction to them on alcohol is so strong.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/12/2020 19:33

😂 you won’t do that again.

questionable maybe we suffered more because we don't drink.

If I have to go on them I definitely won't drink at all.
It's annoying as I hoped if I did need to, I could start them today and be done for Christmas so I at least wasn't actively taking them then, but it looks like I'll be prescribed them on Monday. I will speak to my dentist and see if there's any others I can take. The pain isn't bad enough to warrant something so heavy duty if I can have something a bit less intense.

Get some probiotics in - it can play havoc with your gut!
Some people suffer some don't.
Having said that, it is a good 'kill it dead' antibiotic.

I had to be on them for a hen do once. There were a couple of nurses there who told me I'd be fine having a bit to drink. I trusted what they said. I think I had half a glass of wine and was terribly ill the next day. To this day I don't know if it was just the fact I drank with them at all or whether the meds are that strong that I would've been poorly anyway, even if I'd not touched a drop. I feel for you and hope they don't make you ill

Maybe 😂😂😂

I was honestly convinced I was going to die. Horrible feeling.

Don't drink alcohol and make sure you don't take them on an empty stomach. Don't go into work, stay home , rest and coddle yourself
