Has anyone ever used a TENS machine for pain other than labour?

The Doc at the Pain Clinic yesterday thinks a TENS machine would help, I have to buy it myself though, which i can't afford at the minute, but when I can, would it be worth getting one?
I was given one during labour with DS1, but TBH I didn't get much relief from it, and I know labour pain is completely different from what I get. I'm just not sure!

My mum used a TENS machine when she had a shoulder problem. She thought it worked really well. Can you sell it on eBay (in v g condition) if you don't personally get on with it? Then the outlay is not so much.

you can get quite a good one from any lloyds chemist £14.99 i think they are ,i had a back problem ,which resulted in very painful sciatica,it helped me a great deal

My pain is widespread muscle pain though, so how would it work, would I need to wear it on my legs if they were bad, or my neck, or my hands or arms?

you cant put them on your actual neck or anywhere near your heart,if you have pain down the legs you would probably put on your lower back ,im not quite sure will ,look and see if i still have the leaflet in mine and come back to you

right this is what the book says;
upper back it goes on your shoulders
lower back round waist line
stiff shoulders and neck ,actually on each shoulder
on legs one on top of leg the other further down
feet on the sole of the foot
joints, pic shows one on each knee,or one on each shoulder. The machine is used for 15 mins at a time and have to be placed either side of where the pain is.i will scan the page if you like and put it on here

I'm still not sure, my pain can be quite widespread! Hmm, don't know what to do.
Thing is he wants me to come off all my pain medication so i'm going to need something

saltire
my mum used one for back pain for many years and still does
I have also used one for other pain relief and found it really helped, but didn't get anything from my labour one!

now I can't promise anything, but somewhere I have my Tens machine and some new pads for it, if I can find it you are welcome to have it

saltire, on most Tens machines you can change the settings to produce different pain relief techniques.

Most people use a pain gate mechanism setting, which works by bombarding the spine with nerve impulses that 'interrupt' the pain impulse (along the lines of rubbing your elbow if you bump it).

You can change the settings though to stimulate the spinal cord to produce the body's own pain relieving chemicals.

I used Tens alot with chronic pain patients. Some it worked fabulously, others had no relief at all. It's worth a try. Phone your local physio dept to see if they have any you can borrow.
