Wierd head sensations

For the last couple of days now I've had what I can only describe as electric shocks from the area around my left hand of the head just below the temple and up the head very hard to explain where exactly!
It only happens for a couple of seconds, I wouldn't describe it as very painful, its more a mild shooting pain and gives me a fright more than anything,
I have a call with doctor Wednesday, more for reassurance than its hopefully nothing sinister!
Its all I can think about at the moment, my health anxiety has been dormant for awhile and I don't want this to pish me over the edge!
It happens at least 2 times an hour,
Has anyone any experiences please? Thank you so much

I had this last night so watching with interest. Like a lightning strike through my brain. Lasted about 10 seconds but was frightening.

solomonsfish85 · 14/12/2020 21:52

Sounds a lot like TMJ to me

solomonsfish85 · 14/12/2020 22:03

Do you think? I've looked that up and people suffering from that seem to have extreme pain, mine seems mild compared to most things I've googled, can you get tmj midly?

It happened again this evening. Not for as long though. I felt a bit wobbly after each time it happened but that may have been caused by the feeling of panic it brought on.

HarryBlackberry1 · 14/12/2020 22:35

Will you let us know how you get on with the doctor please? I used to get this years ago after I came off antidepressants. I take HRT now so maybe there's a link. It is very unpleasant though, and upsetting.

FingersXssd83 · 14/12/2020 22:44

Probably cluster headache. I had shooting pains in my head for years early 20s-early 30s. Lots of tests, nothing suspect. Have had anxiety so could be related. Haven't had any for years now though! Hope you're ok x

solomonsfish85 · 14/12/2020 22:47

I will of course let you know, I know how scary these random feelings can be and its good to find some reassurance from posts on here, mine seems to have migrated to under my left eye now, more pressure than electric at the moment,

Thank you fingers, I do wonder if its anxiety related but its been more dormant the last while I haven't been stressed, besides normal kid stresses!

I had that with panic attacks before, but it seemed an obvious connection as I was already having panic attacks when the weird lightning-head started.

ILoveTeeeeeea · 15/12/2020 00:23

‘Electric shocks’ is a common side effect of coming off antidepressants.

Could it be tiredness or B12 deficiency?

sadie9 · 15/12/2020 00:27

It could well be sinus-related.

ibelieveinangels · 15/12/2020 17:35

I have suffered with this for about 15 years, I have anxiety and panic and i was told it was caused by all the adrenaline going around my body!

Dont get them as bad now but still get the odd one, and they still make me panic!

ChubbyBroccoli · 15/12/2020 17:38

Shingles?

solomonsfish85 · 16/12/2020 07:21

Thank you for all the replys, they have really helped, yesterday I didnt have any shocks till late last night before bed they started again, gone again this morning Hmm was even going to cancel the doctor but I think ill just keep the appointment as it is still making ne a bit anxious when it happens

Well update from doctor for anyone with the same thing going on, she said she didn't think it was concerning as I don't have any other symptoms and that it seems to be just one of those things that will go away on its own! I haven't had any other shocks this morning, and I do think like some of you my anxiety is making out its more than what it is, just one of those things

I’m pleased to hear you were reassured by your doctor. I used to get these (and still do occasionally). I went to see my GP when I had a spate of them a few years ago, and she told me it was stress/anxiety.

Ladydowntheroad · 06/01/2021 02:53

I get these sometimes especially if I’ve been out in the cold, they’re related to the muscles in your head, if you massage the area you’ll probably find some sore spots.
