Dd got her very first spot on Friday (although we didn't realise that was what it was) then woke up with a fair number on Saturday. Since then she has only produced a couple more and the majority of them have now crusted over; there are a couple of really small red ones and I can't see properly to say whether or not they have/ have had a 'head'.
What i really am asking is whether or not it can be as mild as this and still be CP (she scratched at a couple on Saturday but not at all since) and if it's possible for them all to have crusted (and therefore making her non-contagious- am I right?) after only 3 days. Half term is no fun stuck in the house, although I did sneak out for a walk with her today so if I know I can go out at some point over the next couple of days I would be sooo much happier

She could still be infectious five days after the appearence of the first spot.

How many spots did she have about?

RubyShivers · 22/10/2007 18:46

what Belgo said - she could still be infectious 5 - 10 days after the spots appeared

belgo · 22/10/2007 18:49

if after five days all the spots are dry, then she isn't infectious anymore.

Haylstones · 22/10/2007 18:49

Erm, I am not 100% sure but I would say no more than 15-20. I was trying to be optimistic by thinking if she had her first spot on Friday then 5 days would be up tomorrow night.... MOst advice I've been given is she'll be contagious until all spots have crusted over, which is normally about 5 days but I wasn't sure if it had to be at least 5 days and crusted over iyswim. I've got mw appointment tomorrow, which I hadn't given any thought but I suppose I shouldn't be taking her with me, realistically

Sympathies Haylstones. My DDs got them one after the other so we were in quatentine for 3 weeks - not nice!

I thought that it wasn't infectious once all the spots had scabbed over, but then again I'm no doctor.

Might not be most popular lady in a waiting room full of pg women with a spotty child.

Haylstones · 22/10/2007 19:01

No, don't suppose I would be! Can't ask any of my friends to have her as none of their dc have had CP yet and dh will be at work so will have to cancel it- arrgh! I've had to wait 2 weeks to get this appointment!

Could your mw come and see you. Mine used to drop by at the end of her appointments when I had my second.

Haylstones · 22/10/2007 19:07

That's an idea but I have to start work at 4.15 so probably won't happen tomorrow. I might ring and ask her for her advice though. I'm not holding my breath!

15-20 spots is very mild - it's possible that she may catch it again (but hopefully not!)

I sat outside the surgery with my dd at my mw appt as obviously couldn't go in. Worthwhile trying to change appt to last in clinic then you don't go near anyone else.
