Anyone want to take a bet on how long it takes my GP to shout "HYPOCHONDRIAC" at me?

Am off to the doctors in an hour with the following list of complaints:

  • Right knee cracking alarmingly and aching.
  • Right knee has given way a couple of times in the past week or so.
  • Sole of right foot feels bruised and over sensitive.
  • Left hip very achy, to the point of waking me at night.
  • Left wrist hurts if I bend it too far or try to put weight on it.

I have a feeling that I know what is wrong - I'm carrying a 25lb 17 month around. BUT the paranoid android in me is screaming arthritis (my poor mum is crippled with it and it terrifies me)!

So place your bets, hefty lump of a baby or everything needs amputating?

it's probably all related - putting strain on one part of the body will put more strain on all the other parts.

So, you're going for hypochondriac then Belgo! That's two of us

Get thee to an osteopath. Your pelvis is probably out of alignment. A few sessions with an osteo and you'll be fine.

belgo · 22/10/2007 15:58

no you're not a hypochondriac! You obviously have real symptoms. Hopefully those symptoms are nothing more sinister then due to carrying your baby around. If arthritis is in your family, then you're doing the right thing to speak to your doctor about it.

Piggy - have had lots of chiropractic treatment for SPD (which reoccurs every month) but this feels different.

sounds like you have compensatory injuries from favouring one side after injuring/straining the other. I do it myself all the time.

but yes, creaking knees should be checked out

Piggy · 22/10/2007 16:02

I had SPD too and it was very different to the historic problems I had with my pelvis (from years of running). Do think about giving an osteo a go - it made such a difference to me. Imagine your pelvis being out of line and slightly twisted - that will cause problems in your knees and other joints.

Most of all, you are not a hypochondriac! Good luck with it.

popsycal · 22/10/2007 16:04

is it joiny pain or different

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 22/10/2007 16:05

Thanks Piggy - I think I will. I'll still go and see the GP so that she can laugh at me though I just feel so silly saying, "This hurts and this and this....."

I'll let you know what she says.

Turns out I have Viral Arthritis and itll last about another six to eight weeks It's not arthritis proper (thankfully), just a virus which causes arthritic symptoms, so I've just got to ride it out.

Thanks for your support yesterday ladies.

You must take it easy. Rest and look after yourself.

belgo · 23/10/2007 11:03

Lilblood - I'm very glad you went to the doctors in that case. I've never heard of viral arthritis.

Look after yourself and I wish you a speedy recovery.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 16:38

Thank you both.
