Allergies - whats laundry detergents are recommended?

One of our family has come out in nasty skin rashes which are deemed due to some sort of allergy. Don't know yet if its food, plant contact or perhaps change in formulation of laundry detergent.

Trying to eliminate possibilities, seems like it would be a good idea to put all his bedding through the wash with something thats unlikely to be an allergen, wondering if there were any recommendations?

If you're wondering why I only mention bedding and not clothes, its cos its the dog, temporarily renamed 'Spotty'.

My dd has eczema and it improved immediatly when we switched to fairy. I know a lot of hospials recommend it too. alternatively you could try eco balls which are detergent free. my freind uses them and says they are great.

i have 3 DC with a fabulous array of allergies between them. We use fairy powder and no fabric conditioner (theory that it aggravates eczema) - if i feel a desp need to use conditioner then it is comfort pure but only on stuff that doesn't touch the skin, and never on bedding.

hehe wash the spotty dog (but not in the machine tho) sorry!! had to lol at op.

The spotty dog is being washed too... every other night in shampoo from vet that costs £12 + VAT

what sort of dog is spotty? my mum had a reaction several years ago to a new dog - apparently the previous owner had been paranoid about any "doggy" smell and had sprayed the poor mutt with perfume!!
Hence my mother is now unable to be in the company of dogs or perfume - tricky!!

EmsMum · 23/10/2007 13:21

He's a daschshund (unperfumed!) - but he's the one with the reaction, we're not allergic to him.

my DS had nasty eczma patches, all stopped after using a powder called Filleti,(think thats how its spelt, its a pink box anyway) got it from Sainsburys

Fileti is also available at Waitrose. It's Swiss I think.

Here in France there is a soap-based laundry product called Le Chat Paillettes that's good for sensitive baby skin. Don't know if it's available in the UK.
