Does anyone have bad dry scaly skin after baby?

My baby is nearly 8 months and my skin was great during pregnancy and for the first couple of months and now it feels like sandpaper and is dry and scaly. Even moisturiser is hard to rub in and makes no difference. My doc said it may take a year for hormones to settle but should i be worried by now? I have spent a lot of money on lotions and potions. Make up seems to sit on top of my face. it's quite depressing.

I had dry skin like that for a few weeks after birth.

Are you breastfeeding? Are you taking any vitamin supplements?

lispy · 22/10/2007 07:15

I'm not breastfeeding and I have been eating very well hoping it would help

are you drinking enough water and getting enough rest?

You could try Oilatum bath emollient, I got really dry skin when I was pregnant and it helped ease the dryness.

I'm drinking heaps of water, tried using nothing but sorboline and aquious (sp) cream didn't help, then bought very expensive jurlique range, didn't help, now i'm using a special baby wash that is designed for babies with sensitive skin and it's cold cream. I'll look for that bath emollient, at the chemist? I have showers not baths so is it suitable? It feels like i need to scrape off a few layers of skin... (yes i have exfolliated).

Hi, yes you can get it from the chemist.
You can use it directly on the skin instead of soap whilst in the shower, though if you could have a bath every now and then and have a realy long soak in it then you should notice a bit of a difference.
