DD2 and I have had horrid cough for a week which DD1 (23 months) has resisted until tonight. She has problems with her chest and the most innocuous colds affect her quite badly, but in her, our chesty cough has morphed in to some hideous bastard chest bothering nastiness, and DH has taken her in to A & E. They say she needs a nebuliser, but taking ages to process her as so busy at A & E, and I'm tearing hair out here. Only reason I'm not there is that I CAN'T BLOODY DRIVE!!!! AAAHHHHHH! Have just booked my theory driving test.

Oh you poor thing, I'm sure she will be ok once they see her.

gigglewitch · 21/10/2007 23:47

ohhh, beenleigh, so feel for you. Have 2 DC with asthma and i know how scary it is. You will also know that A&E is defo the best place for her, and the nebuliser (once she actually gets it) will do the business.
Get DH to nag nag nag - sick children with breathing probs should be seen quickly!!

Skribble · 21/10/2007 23:48

Would a taxi be far too much? I know I would be desperate to be there too.

At 23mth she will get priority in A&E and will be seen straight away if her breathing is difficult. Sounds like she has been triaged so should be on nebuliser soon, the nebuliser usually work very quickly and make a big difference.

Beenleigh · 21/10/2007 23:50

Thank you, I know I know, I'm trying really hard not to keep hassling him, but I can;t help feeling that if I was there with her, then she'd have it by now. It's so stressful. She sunds dreadful

DD2 9 months is asleep, one of us was going to stay here, and because of my mobility retardation, it was me. This has made me so determined to pass driving test.

gigglewitch · 21/10/2007 23:51

P.S. take out your frustrations on the highway code ???
No sorry that is really a dreadful suggestion and i'm sure you couldn't concentrate on anything xcept DD.
mn is a fab distraction tho and that's your best option til you get more news.
You are such a sane rational person, it's usually you giving all the fab suggestions. Just wish i could do the same for you!!

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 23:52

Poor Been and little dd

Sounds like croup.

Anyhow, don't beat yourself up for not driving. If everybody on the planet drove a car, we'd all be coughing.

She'll be fine. You'll be fine

Keep us updated.

Beenleigh · 21/10/2007 23:52

that's lovely, thanks so much xxx

oh Beenleigh, how aweful not to be able to be with her. you must feel so worried. they will get it for her as soon as they can, she will be a priority.

Why not just get in a cab and be there too... sod the expense. would be the only ting to make you feel better i'm sure. I'm also sure that your DH is also hopping up and down as much as you would be

Beenleigh · 21/10/2007 23:53

lol desi at all of us coughing, yes, of course my decision not to dric=ve is an environmental one, and nothing to do with the fact that I am clearly an idiot when it comes to such things!

bacause dd2 who is 9 months is in bed asleep, and decided that it would be best not to disturb her too, am I a shit mother? would you have taken the whole family for a nice trip out?

OP posts:
susiecutiebananas · 21/10/2007 23:58

where do you live ? would it be so bad to take a sleep little girl with you?
sorry not being helpful. just know how i'd feel if i culdnt be with my dd.
I am thinking about you and your girl.

gigglewitch · 21/10/2007 23:59

It is sooo horrible how one simple-looking little sneezy bug turns into something hideous to the lo's with asthma. You have so hit the nail on the head about the mutating bit - if it wasn't so i'd have lol. Safe to say will quote you next time it happens to my lot.
Please please keep us updated!! My DD is 23 mo too and they seem so little when they have something like this don't they?
Do u have any nice chill-out music to play as you mn? and go n get yourself a cuppa, i'm sure you have been through enough stress and need to look after yourself now. Let's get the virtual kettle on, girls.

susiecutiebananas · 22/10/2007 00:00

NO you are not a shit mummy! I was just thinking how i would feel myself. i wasnt implying that you have done the wrong thing. I'm so sorry.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 22/10/2007 00:01

Been, if it will make you feel better, bundle up baby DD2 and get a cab. She'll cope.

I hope DD1 feels better soon x

Beenleigh · 22/10/2007 00:01

it's ok, being over sensitive, thanks.
Thanks gigglewitch, you've made me feel much better x

OP posts:
gigglewitch · 22/10/2007 00:01

And I'd have done what you have Been and sent one of us with gasping DD and the other stay in with other DC. A&E is not a place you take a (possibly) sleeping baby for fun.

Skribble · 22/10/2007 00:01

Oh no way, the last thing you want to do is sit in A&E with a grumpy woken up 9mth old. I am lucky that MIL is only 2 mins away and FIL would drive me to A&E. You did the right thing and she will be fine and home soon.

gigglewitch · 22/10/2007 00:04

see? me n skribble agree.

get that kettle on, woman! - or whatever your 'comfort-drink' is (mine's chocolate) dammit now i've said it i want one

Beenleigh · 22/10/2007 00:05

they've think she's got croup but want to do a chestn x-ray as they are a bit worried that there's a bacterial infection too.

OP posts:
Skribble · 22/10/2007 00:06

You can't drive so might as well have a drink .

Skribble · 22/10/2007 00:07

Oh croup gets better V quickly with nebuliser, my two had croup every winter until they grew out of it. MIL is an ex childrens nurse and was amazed how quickly it can be treated now.

Beenleigh · 22/10/2007 00:09

Ah, thanks, love the have a drink suggestion, isn;t going to happen, but if someone's suggesting I have a drink, all must be OK! Thanks

OP posts:
dolally · 22/10/2007 00:20

poor you been, sounds like they won't be home for a a bit if they're going for the xray malarky.

You'd better settle down with your hot choc - she'll be fine but your dh will be knackered!
