Burns Advice

So folks I have stupidly managed to spill boiling tea all over my thigh and lower stomach and it has resulted in painful second degree burns that are quite large. Does anyone have experience of recovery of burns and what to expect ?

Hopefully you’ve attended A&E, op. Once you’ve followed their advice and followed your outpatient appointment advice from nurse practitioners and your skin is healing, lavender oil is very good for burn recovery BUT should not be used until your skin is healed and not just scabby. Keep an eye out for infections in the site and expect it to be sore for several weeks, depending on the size. Deffo follow all medical advice to the letter!!!

I dropped a pan of roast potatoes in boiling goose fat over my foot - so I can relate to the pain!!
I was advised in a&e to keep it open and raised, don't cover it with plasters/ dressings.
I had antibiotics as it got infected, then had the dressing changed every 3 days and it made a world of difference. I have a pretty bad scar and I have no feeling in the scar area but I did leave medial attention for 5 days hence it getting infected and worse!

When you say second degree do you mean blisters?

LeGrandBleu · 06/12/2020 18:57

Join your thumb and index finger. Any second degree burn (as PP said blister= 2nd degree ) larger than the circle you form should be seen by a doctor.
You need to go to A&E

Agree with others saying I hope you attended a&e.
In the first instance cold water for as long as possible. Then a bit longer.
I recently poured a pan of boiling pasta water over my hand and found loosely wrapping in cling film after the cold water did help ease the pain.

you really need to go to A&E like ASAP that is a big burn/scald and you need to get it looked at

Two christmases ago I spilt a pan of boiling fat on my knee. It was never painful as I burnt through my nerve endings. I had it dressed every few days by the nurse. It took a good 4 weeks to heal. I had smaller burns on my foot (which did hurt) and they healed a bit quicker.

MuchTooTired · 06/12/2020 20:25

A&E! Or if you’re determined not to go/have to wait on a lift/ambulance under a cool shower for a minimum of 20 minutes (longer if you can).

I’m in no way medically trained, just my DD got burnt by just boiled tea and that’s what they made us do when we rocked up to A&E. After that it was morphine, bandages and the burns unit every few days for weeks.

Hope you’re ok op Flowers

You need to go to a and e if you haven’t already.

Coyoacan · 06/12/2020 20:29

Apart from a & e and every the doctor orders, vitamin E is good for recovering from burns

helloxhristmas · 06/12/2020 20:31

A and e op

Thanks folks I attended A&E on Wednesday evening and I am now being looked after by minor injuries unit. I have dressings on blister sites because they have already burst. The leg is doing well but the stomach is struggling. Nurses reckon after xmas it will be healed. Just wondered what to expect for recovery
