What's wrong with DS's feet?

DS has developed itchy and painful spots on his feet. I thought they might be chillblains but I can't find a reference picture on Google that looks the same (and now have to bleach my eyes!)

They're on both feet. The ones on the top of his feet are a mix of small bumps and flatter round lesion types. The ones the ends of his toes are more like blisters. They're more uncomfortable when he's not wearing socks but said they hurt when they run on something such as bedding.

Anyone know what these spots are?

Covid toes was my first thought too. I'm sure there are other possible causes too though!

Hand foot and mouth

AlwaysBehindTheCurve · 03/12/2020 22:12

They look just like my DD’s hand, foot and mouth (she only got in on her feet).

Fluteytooting · 03/12/2020 22:14

It could be pompholyx

PhylisPrice · 03/12/2020 22:16

Oh it looks uncomfortable, poor lad! Hope it disappears soon for him. Can't suggest anything I'm afraid, not seen anything like it before.

Vintagegoth · 03/12/2020 22:17

There is a type of eczema that causes blisters on the hands and feet. Look up pompholix. It can often be stress related.
Steroid cream will clear it up.

He's 17. I did wonder about HFAM but he's had none of the other symptoms such as the fever or loss of appetite. He does have some small spots on his fingers.

He had a negative covid test on Tuesday. Would covid toes cause a positive result?

Dyshidrosis/dyshidrotic eczema maybe?

All mine had with hand, foot and mouth was blisters on the toes.
FreakOfNature · 03/12/2020 22:19

Definitely pompholyx, I've had it and it gives me the shivers just looking at the picture! It's VERY irritating. Keeping it cool helps. Bursting the blisters with a needle brings relief but it will spread so best to leave if possible. IIRC I had a dose of steroids and it never returned.

Hand foot and mouth. X

CheshireSplat · 03/12/2020 22:23

I've been looking at this online tonight because DH has funny swollen toes and found a newspaper report that said many people for whom this was the only symptom may test negative because it is a symptom of covid that can come 1-4 weeks after the main event, so the virus has come and gone. So perhaps he had it, was asymptomatic, noe doesnt have it anymore, just the toes.

CheshireSplat · 03/12/2020 22:25

Having said that, the photos I've seen online of covid toes are red, swollen toes and this doesnt look like that.

AlwaysBehindTheCurve · 03/12/2020 22:26

Or yes, pompholyx. DH gets that and it’s a nightmare for him.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 03/12/2020 22:31

Thanks all. He's had an antihistamine and some paracetamol but we'll give some hydrocortisone a try and see if that helps.
