Sorry in advance for my toe pics. BUT.. my toes are soooo sore, swollen and itchy. Its horrible and so painful. Anyone have any idea what these could be. These are toes from different feet.

Covid toes. I've had it. Drives ya crazy itchy.

Madbengalmum · 03/12/2020 19:02

Op, I won’t get in to the minutiae of this please do not worry and follow the advice i have put on here. You will be fine, take some painkillers, but not with a glass of wine!

AstridAv · 03/12/2020 19:03

I dont have piles cream but I will try above tips. My dad has raynaulds and I always have cold fingers and toes. If that helps. But judging by the amount of people saying chillblains I would expect that. I wanted a bath tonight.. shall just hang my feet (with socks) over the edge Grin

No bath OP!

BiscuitsUnited · 03/12/2020 19:05

I have had both chilblains and a weird red toe thing when I had covid.

The chilblains were sore and itchy, the covid toe wasn't, it was just 'there'!

5zeds · 03/12/2020 19:07

Not all “experts” on the internet ARE experts so balance between responses if you can rather than going whole hog with the most adamant

Cuddling57 · 03/12/2020 19:07

Definitely no bath and you can't wait a week for the cream! Send someone out now to get you some or at least buy some tomorrow.
Do you have any Bonjela in the cupboard?

PetCheetah · 03/12/2020 19:08

Looks like chilbains to me too. DD has had them a few times.

Cuddling57 · 03/12/2020 19:08

It doesn't even matter if it's covid toe or chilblains. You need to treat the symptoms - so no baths and get some cream! And painkillers.

yearinyearout · 03/12/2020 19:10

Covid toe!

SafferUpNorth · 03/12/2020 19:17

Deffo chilblains. Know the feeling all too well. I get it every winter.

willien · 03/12/2020 19:19

Wtf are covid toes ???

Chloemol · 03/12/2020 19:31

@willien

I had never heard of it either. Found this
metro.co.uk/2020/10/30/what-are-covid-toes-and-how-long-do-they-last-for-after-you-have-coronavirus-13507363/

whenwillthemadnessend · 03/12/2020 19:34

My son had these in March shortly after we all were ill with suspected Covid. The only other symptom was a migraine.

Soo666 · 03/12/2020 19:40

Try Snowfire Ointment Stick for chilblains. The only thing that worked for mine they were a lot worse than yours. Try e- bay or Amazon or just Google really worth a go. 😊

AstridAv · 03/12/2020 19:41

I am a bit of a bath addict and have a hot bath every night so maybe the extreme changes in temp have caused them. With getting having cold feel, getting in a hot bath and then walking bare foot on cold floor. I noticed they get much worse after a bath

OP posts:
Madbengalmum · 03/12/2020 19:41

Soo666, yes the old remedy’s are the best. Many of my older patients can remember it from their youth. It hasn’t changed but is the only recommendation i make to patients.

nolovelost · 03/12/2020 19:42

Aren't chilblaines caused by going from extreme cold to hot temps?

AstridAv · 03/12/2020 19:42

@Soo666 ive ordered some from amazon already. Says it'll be here by Monday..
I have tiger balm.. Will that help?

OP posts:
momager1 · 03/12/2020 19:49

OP NOOOOOOOO.... not tiger balm! (unless it is different from tiger balm in Canada!) May as well rub deep heat on them. You will set them on fire! I used epsom salts in just lukewarm water for 20 min soaks when i had those nasty chilblains.

Soo666 · 03/12/2020 19:49

I would try it in the meantime till you get the other stuff. I was so pleased with the snowfire the pain was horrible and I'm no baby. 👶🏼 I think I even put sudocream on them as well before getting that as that was recommended on the tub. Unless you've had them you just can't explain how rotten it is. Good luck, I really hope it works for you, 😊

Madbengalmum · 03/12/2020 19:51

OP and Soo666, another good option if no snowfire is Balmosa. For future reference. No tiger balm, gentle heat only, thermal socks and painkillers.

AstridAv · 03/12/2020 19:53

Thank you. Everyone is freaking me out with the stories of covid toes. I shall treat them as chillblians as that seems the most likely and favoured explanation xx

OP posts:
GerundTheBehemoth · 03/12/2020 19:57

They look just like my chilblains. As others have said, keep your feet warm (not too hot).

CoffeeDay · 03/12/2020 19:57

Definitely chilbains! Unfortunately I found that creams don't do much, but they clear up on their own within 1-2 weeks.

Also without meaning to be alarmist, but which might be useful to know, persistent chilbains can be a symptom of autoimmune illness. If they occurred quite suddenly along with other unexplained physical symptoms (joint pain, fatigue, fever, hair loss, dry eyes, skin problems etc) then it might be best to get a full health check.

I suddenly started getting chilblains on my hands and feet in my early 20s and I lived with them for 5-6 years assuming it was due to the cold. Turned out I had lupus and the chilblains disappeared and never came back after I started medication. (Incidentally the medication for lupus is hydroxychloroquine which was investigated for treating covid. There's a strong overlap between covid and autoimmune symptoms which probably explains the covid toes!)
