Morton's Neuroma surgery - experiences?

Hi everyone,
I've been living with a Morton's Neuroma for the past few years which causes me a lot of pain. I've had a steroid injection and although it helped, it quickly wore off after a few months.

My doctor has now scheduled an operation to remove it - the incision will be from the top of the foot.

Has anyone experienced this operation and happy to share the outcome (positive & negatives)? I'm concerned about toes going numb etc, and overall success rates as it's a bit hit and miss.

Thank you in advance!

DH had two removed in one foot, one in the other in Jan 2019. It made a massive difference to his pain levels, but he does have a numb toe on the foot where they took 2 out. He'd do it again (and as he still has another one, probably will).
His surgeon recommended 2 weeks totally off his feet with his legs elevated for the best results which he stuck to

I have this in my right foot, am watching thread with interest. My toes (2nd and 3rd) are pins & needles and tingly and it’s very painful periodically and completely randomly, though even a short walk is likely to set it off. As yet only an over the phone diagnosis so I could be wrong. Doctor was against surgery when asked but I’ve not pushed her about it yet.

I had one removed about 6 years ago. I've been pain free since then and I'm so glad that I had the surgery (although I was VERY reluctant at the time). Recovery was a bit frustrating - I kept my foot up for about 2 weeks. I had swelling for about 2 months if I spent too much time on my feet. Although absolutely no complications and I have a tiny, faint scar.

Thank you all so much for replying. I'm sorry I have taken so long to reply - I was due to have my operation in January but it was cancelled again due to COVID. However, since then I have continued reading forums etc with patients experiences and it has really put me off!

Some people say the operation is life changing, but then I have read so many stories where it has made people's lives worse and caused them significant pain that they now have to live with...

So I'm totally confused about what to do! Removing a nerve from my foot isn't my first choice, but the Morton's Neuroma is driving me mad too. Particularly in summer with smaller shoes/flip flops etc. Winter is easier with thick heavy boots :)

I had mine removed at 20 years old, 25 years ago!! It limited my ability to wear certain shoes, I was frequently in pain and suffered numbness. After the post op recovery I can honestly say I haven’t had a single issue. I have a tiny scar and would do it again if I ever got another one.

I had matching neuromas in both feet, same size but only 1 causing real issues. After years of trying everything, including the steroid injections I had mine removed.
Overall it was a good success as I can now walk distances again, only get the occasional twinge from it, but my foot never returned to the same size (was wide, now wider!) and it took a lot longer than I realised to fully recover. Shoe buying is a nightmare as I do need padded soles and good support as I also get plantar fasciitis, and my feet are now extra wide.
