Really sore tongue?!

MoirasRoses · 28/11/2020 19:35

My tongue has felt really sore the past 2/3 weeks. And is getting increasingly so. The only way I can describe it is it feels like it’s been burnt. But it hasn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s gone from background annoyance to ouch. No physical signs of anything weird, tongue looks normal & I can taste everything normally too.

I did use Crest Whitening Strips about a month ago for 7 days only. I’ve used them a few times previously with no issues. Could it potentially have been the peroxide? But I can’t understand why it’s getting more sore when I haven’t used them in over 3 weeks now ..

Any thoughts 🤔 worth bothering the doctor about?

I have this for similar length of time, also buzzing lips and mouth feels a bit numb. Been having a few rashes but they go. No idea what it is, when I google it says allergies.

Have you heard of burning mouth syndrome

SilkieCat · 28/11/2020 20:26

I think that's probably what mine is though when I had it before doctor couldn't do anything. I noticed mine was seasonal and suspect linked to hayfever but now live in thatched cottage have these things all year though worse past couple of weeks. I wondered briefly about covid but think not as I stay in and I've had rashes so more matches an allergy. I have a slightly runny nose but smell is fine. Other cause worth considering is anything dental.

Could you be low in iron OP? I had this feeling when I was diagnosed anemic. Been fine since taking supplements.

If it's been happening for a few weeks and getting worse, go to the GP. I never understand why people are reluctant to see a GP, that's what we pay our NI for

See your GP but I have this and for me it's a form of burning mouth syndrome linked to my teeth grinding.

I do have low folate and am supposed to take supplements but don't. Iron varies whether it is low or not but I'll try some feroglobin vitamins and see if this helps with the burning mouth symptoms.

Thanks guys - never heard of burning mouth syndrome! Confused .. does seem to fit the symptoms! How peculiar. It’s very annoying. I’m moving house this week & will need a new GP but I’ll maybe give them a call if it’s no better by the end of the week!
