Advice needed re DS's cough (emetophobes don't read!)

DS has had a bad cough for over a week now. We took him to the Dr's last week who said it was viral in origin and nothing we could do -even medicine wouldn't help etc.

Yesterday he coughed so bad he threw up so took him right to the Dr's, who again said nothing really wrong, not whooping cough or anything like that. He then coughed so bad last night, he threw up everywhere.

Today he seems fine in himself, taking his bottles/water etc although not eating much. I'm worried though that it maybe something the Dr is missing? Or is there something going around?

Any help appreciated!

dont worry crook, this is just a virus, and a bloody nasty one at that, dont be alarmed if he starts coughing up offending looking greens tuff that looks like it could get up and walk the reason why he threw up is coz of all the phlem stuck in his wind pipe, i heave every morning with it, not nice lol, expect him to be coucghing for a long while yet

How old ? Could be a form of RSV (common cold virus). Prop him up after feeds and raise the level of the head of his bed so he sleeps on a slope. Feeding little and often may help as it is important to keep hsi fluids up. A humidifer and/or vaporiser (Sudafed do a plug in one cheap),assuming he's old enough, run at night may help too.

If it is RSV a common complication in under 1's is Bronchiolitis which can cause wheezing, lethargy and sharp breathing, so if he develops any of these symptoms do call gp again.

He is nearly 17months old...Dh thinks medised may help him but I don't want to give it to him as he may end up too sleepy/spaced out to sit up to throw up iyswim?

Sounds like its just a time thing then....poor little mite!

DS (now 15 months) started doing this when he was about 7 months old and now, whenever he has a bad coughing bout, he is sick everywhere (in fact he has done this for the last 2 nights).

We have spoken to doctors about it and they say that it is the coughing which causes the lo's to start retching and puking so have kinda got used to it and accepted that is the way Ds is.

Hello there. New to this so bear with me if I ramble - my daughter (who is now 6) always threw up with a cold. It was her only way of getting rid of the phlegm! Better out than in, I suppose. Thankfully she has grown out of that now. Hope he gets better soon.
