Would it be madness to book elective surgery early next year?

I'm having an appointment with a surgeon this afternoon to discuss cosmetic surgery.

His secretary mentioned that they're now booking dates in February.

I can't get my head round it though, actively putting myself into hospital when we're likely to have a post-Xmas spike in Coronavirus cases?

Would you do this? Would it be total madness? I feel like it would, but I also really want this done. It's not for health reasons though really, more cosmetic.

I would 100% book, just be prepared for possible cancellation or date changes. I was booked for cosmetics next week but had to cancel due to unexpected pregnancy, rebooked for next year but if I wasn’t pregnant I’d 100% be going for my surgery. I’ve waited years already for some new boobs and a flat stomach Grin

Ha, I'm not going for boobs but it is stomach (damn kids...)

If you were going to go in next week, did you have concerns about the timing? I'm wondering if I make it end of Feb then NHS staff will be vaccinated.

I had an NHS operation two months ago, no problem with infection. They asked me to isolate 14 days before the op and 3 days before surgery I had to do a Covid test. They are strict guidelines about how you can travel to the hospital and protocols when you get there for surgery and so on. I assume a private hospital would have similar procedures.

It's in an NHS hospital so I guess would be the same. Thanks for sharing.

I'd book it in, but be prepared for the fact that you might be cancelled at some point nearer the time.

nolovelost · 27/11/2020 13:05

I wouldn't

ASandwichNamedKevin · 27/11/2020 22:41

I probably would.
If there is a spike in cases it could be postponed.
If it happens you get your op, one consideration could be what if you have to homeschool post-op, how mobile will you be/factor in age of children.

Hmm good point. They're 9 and 11 so should be ok, and DH is likely to still be working from home too.
