Help- People who know about eye prescriptions

I don’t wear glasses currently, went for an eye test today. I find the post eye test walk out to look at glasses very stressful and anxiety inducing so I asked just for a print out of my prescription and said I’d come back to choose glasses (or get them online).

Anyway, now I’m looking at my prescription and thinking, do I really need glasses or were they just trying to get more money out of me.? DH thinks they’re trying to fleece me.

That's a very mild prescription.
I wouldn't bother.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 23/11/2020 15:54

That is unless you're having trouble with headaches, straining your eyes or other vision problems.
Was it just a routine test or did you go for a specific reason/problem?

TheQueef · 23/11/2020 15:55

Small correction but if it were mine I would order the cheapo specs advertised on MSE just to see if you prefer it.

@NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs I’m currently being treated for Stage 2 Lyme disease so just trying to cover all bases in terms of what damage has been done. Been having headaches and dizziness but it’s more likely that’s due to inner ear damage. I have felt like my eye are tired and strained so decided just to get them checked. Optician said just to wear them for reading and computer work.

Guess I won’t bother splashing out on a designer pair then!

Thank you @TheQueef, might get a cheap pair and see if there’s any difference!

£14 isn't bad and if you like them get some you love.

I agree, get some cheap ones and see if it makes a difference.

Does your employer have an eyecare scheme for VDU users?

Inthewaysince82 · 23/11/2020 16:30

@BikeRunSki I’m self employed, I design and make products so lots of computer work and close up fiddly work. I think I’ll get a cheap pair to try as my eyes do feel strained at the end of the day.

I wear a much stronger prescription, but I find that 0.5 diopter is enough to make a difference. You can probably pick up that prescription in a local chemist or Poundland/B&M etc.
