Eustachian Tube Dysfunction - pain?

Hello,

I had quite a few ear infections this year, diagnosed with Eustachian tube dysfunction. Last time I went to the gp I had symptoms but they said no infection present. I still get ear pain on and off I've got it today quite sore and radiating down my neck slightly. Is this common for the disorder? Anyone have any experience of this?

I have this and get awful pain but only in my left ear. It hurts to touch my ear and the pain can be just my ear or spread to my temples and down my jaw line. Any time I've seen the docs they just confirm no infection and offer steroid nasal spray to open the tube. I find holding my nose and blowing is the best way to open up. With the pain I try to gentle massage in front of my ear, it's the only thing I've found that helps.

Massaging into the temples and the dip at the top where my ear meets my head can help too.

Thank you for replying! Sorry to hear you're going through the same! Relieved that it's not another infection though! Yes I have the same it's like my ears bruised then goes down my neck slightly. Thanks very much I'll try the blowing trick, do you ever do steam inhalation?

I’ve had similar for months but haven’t managed to get to the bottom of it. The nasal spray didn’t help me.

Watching with interest!

Just been diagnosed with ETD after months of blocked ears, pain, intermittent sore throat and sinus pain. It’s so annoying - I’m constantly aware of it because either my ears or throat never feel quite right. I’ve been quite stressed wondering what the hell is wrong with me. Doctor has advised using an Ear Popper device 3 times a day to retrain my Eustachian tube. So far, ears are improving but sore throat still comes back now and then as does sinus pain. Never had such long lasting symptoms before.

I have had this for about 3 years. The best thing is an otovent to help clear the tubes. I still get pain especially in the winter. Got it now and started using the otovent to help, will take a few weeks to go away though.

I've never thought of steam but will give it a try, thanks.

Try humidification up to 3 times a day if you can. Persevere with humidification. Massage front of ear by Tragus.

Thanks all for the replies and advice! I'm surprised it's so common, does anyone else have allergies?

How does humidification work? I was thinking of getting a humidifier but would you have to just move it around the house wherever you go? Or just bedroom at night?!

@OLLIE2011 you're welcome my gp suggested it, do it twice a day it takes a while to take effect but can help

Hi just use some olbus oil in bowl of hot water and hover over with towel over your head. Try this three times a day if possible for a few days to see if helps
